Artist in Residence

Artist in Residence

Project Overview

"Artists-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities exist to invite artists, academicians, curators, and all manner of creative people for a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. They provide a time of reflection, research, presentation and/or production." - excerpted from Wikipedia

About Bedtime Story Broadcast:

It is a public access program broadcasted on Radio Fairfax, in Northern VA, and it's also accessible online. It was conceived of to provide children, particularly ones who are blind, dyslexic, or whose parents are likewise disabled or illiterate, w/a bedtime story. A narrator reads them, like an audiobook.

Bedtime Story wants to give someone w/great potential, determination, dedication, and a strong sense of social responsibility the opportunity to prove him or herself as an artist. You will be required to produce at least one coloring page per episode. At the end of your six month tenure, we will print and bind them all together into a book. We'll offer them online for a buyer specified donation that will go directly to Learning Ally, the non-profit organization that inspired Bedtime Story Broadcast, because they recently lost their funding from the government. I volunteer my voice there. We read and record audiobooks for the blind and dyslexic, specifically, students. For more info, see: www.LearningAlly.com.

To be considered for Bedtime Story's first Artist-in-Residence, tell us in an e-mail to [redacted] what your favorite fairytale is and illustrate an image inspired by it. You can choose to color it w/whatever medium you wish or leave it in black and white. Whichever way, wow us w/your work.

You do not need to relocate, but if you live in the D.C. Metro Area, we can prolly provide you w/a quiet space at Learning Ally to work. We will serve snacks.

Use a thick black marker to give the images the most contrast.

  • You are required to illustrate at least one coloring page, in black on white, inspired by each episode.

  • You, above all other artists, will be expected to keep your work extra clean; no smudges nor stray marks.

  • You retain all rights to your work.
