Animated Short Film - "When The Tide Ends"

Project Overview

"When the Tide Ends" is a short animated film set to be released around next March at a local film festival.


This short film has been officially in the works for a little over a year and has been a personal passion project for far longer. The team has been through a number of obstacles, but we've finally made it to the final months of processing. Unfortunately, the actress playing our lead character has recently faced an accident regarding her health and can no longer voice her. Naturally, we will need to recast, and that's when this website was brought to attention.

The story follows a young man named Henry who has recently moved to a new school on the oceanfront of an island. On his first day he notices a shy girl sitting in the back of the class with no one to talk to. Seeing as he's in a similar position, he approaches her. He finds out her name is Norma Jean from the name on her desk, and from there on starts to form an unlikely friendship with a girl who faces extreme social anxiety and many dark secrets. 

While we are looking for good microphone quality and a workable schedule, it should be noted that we are mainly looking for someone who is strong in acting and is perhaps even willing to record a short song (although it will not be required.) The actress will be compensated and the price may be negotiated, however we are starting at $75.

The secondary protagonist of the story. Norma Jean is a sensitive, quiet girl who only speaks to Henry, the new student in class. When she finally opens up, she reveals that she is thoughtful, artistic, and wildly creative and fun when given the opportunity, Hiding behind her wall of secrecy she has built up over many years, she finally opens up to a stranger who may save her life. She will not have very many lines, but will require a good actress for the lines she does have.

  • I'm not supposed to talk to anyone, ever. I just...sit alone all day. I stare out the window and watch the clouds disappear from the sky. I like to close my eyes and imagine that I'm moving them with my mind, painting the beautiful sky with stars. And then, when I open my eyes, I beg that they'll take me away to somewhere better than this.

  • I'm sorry. I have to go now. Don't tell anyone I was here, alright? I'll, uh...see you in class.
