Project Overview
Cho-Akhan is a caretaker for the dead, living with her family in a small Cho-Arrim village in the depths of the Rushwood. Life in the village is quiet and peaceful, and the long arm of Mercadia City seems impossibly far away...
As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal to bring these stories to life through audio.
Having concluded our main storyline for the moment, we move to a side tale of high seas adventure! Two sorcerers, one young and brash, one old and worldly, must work together to survive a pirate attack and more. You can read this week's full story here:

The ancient spirit of a shaman, soft and whispering. She offers Cho-Akhan great power, the power to save her people, but at the cost of her self.
"The Cho-Arrim don't remember. They knew, once. How to be many."
"The mask has power. You make it with pieces of your world. You become a reflection of your people... You lose yourself, though. You make yourself into a picture of everyone else, but it covers you."
"It is always a great loss when a family loses a child..."
Cho-Akhan's biological mother. She is soft, gentle, very spiritual. She is a caretaker for the dead, preparing bodies for their final rest.
My persistent daughter. You know those herbs do best in the woods. Herbs growing in the garden would miss the wildness. They'd miss the trees and the river.
Sounds like you found one of our old shamans. Not many left—Rushwood tends to swallow them down.
[Her son has died and she is preparing the body] The river will guide him true... It will take him to rest..
A young woman, daughter of a caretaker for the dead. She questions the old ways of her people and the beliefs of her mother, but will take on great responsibility to save the lives of those she loves.
[Exasperated with her mother] Will you at least think about the garden this time?
[Trying to sound disinterested] Uh-huh. Living and dead. Got it.
[On the verge of tears. Her brother and her whole village is dying to disease.] Why did this happen? Why are we dying? Why are you here with your mask and your secrets, watching my world fall apart?
Cho-Fihad's wife. She is a warrior, strong and brusk. She is best described in the story: " Rough 'Shadi, quick with a spear, spare with her words, as different from 'Akhan's father as a jaguar was from a lamb."
Listen to our grown-up daughter, 'Fihad. So knowledgeable in matters of empire. So sure that that big polished cage does not move.
Nothing but scavengers. They'll kill us all off without even laying a finger on a single Cho-Arrim, then pick over our bones for whatever's left.
[observing several new scars on her daughter's face] 'Akhan, what happened? Who did this to you?
