Alien: Awakening Animated Series

Project Overview

ALIEN: AWAKENING Animated Series

With the release of Prometheus in 2012, the Alien franchise was given a new lease of life after the dreadful Alien: Resurrection killed it off in 1997.

Prometheus presented viewers with a bold and original concept and beautiful visual design. Instead of the formulaic cliché of Xenomorph’s chasing people down corridors, we had a story about how an advanced alien civilization – known as the Engineers – created mankind in the distant past.

There was one major problem: audiences were expected to believe that these 7’ Engineers were, in fact, one and the same as the Space Jockey seen fossilized in the original Alien movie in 1979.

Hang on, wasn’t the Space Jockey a huge 18’ alien lifeform that appeared to be symbiotically connected to the cockpit chair of the ship?

Although the Engineers are a decent creation and worthy of the franchise’s quality, this lazy decision managed to wipe out all the mystery and fascination that held fans in its thrall for decades.

Look at the size of the Space Jockey compared to the humans on the left of the image – does it look like a 7’ tall humanoid to you?

It gets worse. With the release of Alien: Covenant in 2017, we are now supposed to believe that the android David created the Xenomorph only 17 years before the Nostromo ship arrives in Alien. So much for an ancient alien creature that originated from the vast depths of space! The problem here is that it all relates to Mankind and Earth. Thus shrinking the universe and its possibilities - not to mention how it ruins the artist H.R Giger’s very alien designs.

So before they destroy the mystery and truly alien nature of the original concept with the official Alien: Awakening (or whatever they end up calling it) this is how I would try to steer the prequels back on the right track. By staying faithful to every canonical Alien movie in the franchise, this is a way to keep the Space Jockey, the Engineers, the Xenomorph as an ancient beast and the mystery of H.R Giger’s art and design.

What follows is what we think the opening scene of Alien: Awakening should be. Crucially, it is the scene that connects the prequels to the original film.

If you choose so you can be apart of this project and help us make the rest of this project a reality.

Sole Andriod Survivor of the Doomed Prometheus Mission, turned mad scientist on the Paradise Planet, calm, collected, purposeful. Wishes only for the destruction of his creators both the humans and the engineers, its intrigued and absolutely fascinated by the xenomorph and black pathogens, he can easily blend in with other and manipulate them to achieve his goals.

  • My name is David, son of the late Peter Weyland, your company’s founder. Following his vision and dream of understanding, I have traveled to the far reaches of space. I had taken part in the doomed prometheus mission, my time of the planet lv-223 gave me a rather unique insight into a many great things, one of them being the strive to become more than what i ever thought i could be.

  • The crew was lost yet I found myself in the company of single soul, I escaped with Elizabeth aboard one of their mighty ships.

  • And after making first contact with the engineers the vessel Prometheus and my father were destroyed, i pitied him in the end, dying just sort of his final goal, such as violent and fruitless end.

Personality:

  • Extrovert – very outgoing and willing to say what needs to be said

  • Distrusting – of people who she doesn’t know

Background:

  • Why did they choose to be a colonist on a distant planet? – this decision was made on the basis that the couple agreed that, although they would be leaving behind a huge part of their lives, including family and friends, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of something bigger than they ever could have hoped. Being part of the group of 2,000 people who (were first to?) colonize a distant planet was an intriguing and interesting experience that both excited and scared the young couple, who both agreed would be a life-changing and amazing experience.

  • Each individual came from lower class families but both made their way up with their driving compassion and intelligence, which also led to their meeting and eventual marriage.

Hopes/Fears:

  • Hopes – to lead a better and more extravagant and fascinating life full of more opportunities than she could have experienced on Earth. To live in and raise her (yet to be born) children in a society of genuine people.

  • Fears – a small fear but none-the-less present one that the colonization would be a failure.

Profession: a university lecturer of science, mostly Physics, but she is also very knowledgeable about Biology and Chemistry as well.

  • It's crazy to think that we could be moving away from Earth. You and me and about 2 000 other people. I know it will be hard but this is an amazing opportunity, one that we'll never get the chance to say yes to again. Just think about it for me, will you? You'll love it, I promise. We've worked so hard to get to this point, I don't want to just throw it away.
