A Question of Confidence - Magic Story Audio Drama
Project Overview
As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.
The storyline of Ixalan has begun and we are at last introduced to our new players. This story primarily features Huatli as she comes to grips with who she is and who she can yet become. You can check out this week's story here:

As a general casting note, I do not typically have any voice requirements in mind for characters. I would much rather hear your interpretations and choose from among them.

Huatli is the aspiring Warrior-Poet of the Empire of the Sun. She is a leader of a squadron of dinosaur knights, the emperor’s most trusted tactical advisor, and an excellent orator and poet, capturing the hearts of all in the empire.
In addition to all this she is a planeswalker, though she does not know it. This story features her spark igniting and glimpsing a new world before being pulled back down thanks to the Magic of Ixalan. She now must wrestle with what she believes she has seen, the responsibilities put on her by the emperor, and her goal of becoming the Warrior-Poet.
She is a major player in the Ixalan storyline and being a planeswalker she can also appear in future stories on other worlds. Should you accept this role, you will be asked to reprise it in future stories.
[joking around with her cousin] “Hmm. The facts line up. Given the evidence, it is more likely than not that Granny is a vampire."
[part of the poem she is orating to the gathered crowd]
With Threefold Sun above us
And these prayers upon our lips
Did your proud warriors bring terrible radiance
To the heathens on your shores.
[freaking out in her head after her first planeswalk] My body BROKE APART and there was color and light and was that a seizure was it a hallucination except Angrath saw it too, that DAMNED PIRATE, how dare he think I would ever help him after he killed my dinosaur and tried to kill me, SWEET SUN ABOVE, MY LUNGS DISSOLVED—
Inti is Huatli’s cousin and a fellow knight of the Sun Empire. He is part of Huatli’s dinosaur-riding squad of knights and particularly skilled in healing magics. He is extremely even-tempered. He enjoys witty repartee with his cousin and acts as a voice of reason and concern for her while she weighs her options in choosing her path.
As a major player in the Ixalan storyline, he may appear in future stories in this block. Should you accept this role, you may be asked to reprise it in future stories.
[loudly so as to speak over their mounts’ galloping. He’s explaining the whereabouts of pirate invaders] ”Reports said they were camped near the outcropping.”
"Are you sure of what you saw earlier today? When you . . . did the . . ." [trailing off as he motions her planeswalking, which he has no idea how to describe]
"Do you want to go? Or do you just want the mantle that comes with your success?"
Wayta is a a 13 year old girl who greatly admires Huatli for her skills as an orator. She is embarrassed about her own poetry skills, but wants to become just as good as Huatli.
[excited to meet her idol] “Warrior-Poet, are you delivering an oration at the homecoming ceremony?"
[starstruck] “I saw you speak at the last equinox festival . . . you were amazing."
[embarrassed about her poetry] ”It's not good enough to share."
The leader of the Empire of the Sun, Apatzec Intli III is ambitious, charismatic, and an extreme realist. He rules with clear goals of expansion for his empire, bringing glory to his people. He despises anything he sees as intangible. Dreams, myths, unattainable goals. This may relate to a falling out with his mother, the previous emperor. She was content to keep the empire inside its borders while seeking out the lost golden city.
As a major player in the Ixalan storyline, he may appear in future stories in this block. Should you accept this role, you may be asked to reprise it in future stories.
[announcing to a large crowd] "Driving the Brazen Coalition and the Legion of Dusk from our eastern coast means that we are ready to reclaim the south!”
[disgusted as he appraises an enemy sword] "Gaudy, isn't it? One wonders how they conquered an entire continent with these."
[smiling. Excited, possibly with greed] “This is a new era for our empire. No other warrior-poet in our history has foreseen the Golden City. That makes my rule a special one."
Angrath is a minotaur, a pirate, and a planeswalker. He’s a big, angry bull-man, whose magic involves searing heat and commanding chains to move as he wills. He commands a crew of pirates as he searches for the artifact known as the Immortal Sun. His planeswalking abilities have been stunted by the magic of Ixalan and he believes the Immortal Sun will allow him to leave.
I expect that Angrath would sound gruff, but also slightly foreign to local ears, given his description in the story.

"I am the dread pirate Angrath. And I seek the Immortal Sun."
"If you will not tell me where the Immortal Sun is, knight, then you will die."
[suddenly excited, elated even to find a fellow planeswalker] "I've never met another one on this wretched plane! We can help each other leave!"
