A Court of Thorns and Roses - Audiobook

A Court of Thorns and Roses - Audiobook

Project Overview

A radio drama based on the Sarah J. Maas bestselling novel of the same name.

Looking for 18+ Voice actors ONLY! It has mature themes and thus I ask that anyone involved is of the legal age to actually read this book.

There is one mild spicy scene in chapter 27, a fade to black sex scene, kissing, and some other mature content within this book, so do keep that in mind if auditioning for Feyre or Tamlin/Rhysand.

**If uncomfortable with this arrangement, I can do my best to find a work around, but preferably if you are auditioning for Tamlin/Rhysand/Feyre, expect a mild amount of NSFW.

This is a passion project for ACOTAR, otherwise known as "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J. Maas. The FULL PDF of the book will be sent to all participants free of charge and scripts will be made by me VIA google docs.

I plan to go chapter by chapter, releasing on Youtube and categorized in order via playlist. I plan to upload these videos to Youtube with NO ADS and NO MONETIZATION to reach a large audience on Tiktok/Booktok, so if you are a rabid fan of this series and would like to lend your skills, or if you are looking for a project to pad your demo reel, look no further than here.

Please have a discord account when applying, as that is my main source of communication. If not, email is also viable.

Voice Actress - Feyre Archeron
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: PudgyBlu Emily

A bleak, raspy monotone voice to match the youthful, narcissistic, developing personality of protagonist Feyre Archeron. Any American accent. Note: This role also includes narration.

Feyre Archeron (pronounced Fae-ruh), female lead role.

A nineteen-year-old huntress and the story’s protagonist. Feyre shoulders the responsibility of caring for her father and two older sisters due to a promise she made her dying mother.  Her determination and dedication to her duty isolate her from others. Like most humans, she’s raised with a distrust and hatred for faeries. Forced to spend time in the faerie realm, she learns the truths behind these misconceptions and comes to understand the power of both romantic and familial love.

I'm open to any interpretations of this voice, though the author has stated that she is loosely based off of belle from beauty and the beast and Persephone from Greek mythology, so I'd like to honor the author's inspirations when casting this role.

  • Feyre: (dazzled) I was loosened, a top whirling around and around, and I didn’t know who I danced with or what they looked like, only that I had become the music and the fire and the night, and there was nothing that could slow me down.

  • Feyre: (fearful) They would remain until the bark ran out, then travel north past the wolves’ territory, and perhaps into the faerie lands of Prythian - where no mortals would dare go, not unless they had a death wish

  • Feyre: (entranced) More—I wanted the hardness of his body crushing against mine; I wanted his mouth and teeth and tongue on my bare skin, on my breasts, between my legs. Everywhere—I wanted him everywhere. I was drowning in that need

Role assigned to: OlyAytheVA

A soothing, but also aggressive voice to match the kind-hearted but unpredictable nature of the protagonist's love interest - Tamlin. Any accent.

Tamlin (pronounced Tam-lin).

The High Lord of the Spring Court and Feyre’s love interest. Like Feyre, Tamlin carries the weight of a duty he never expected or pursued. Though he initially seems beastly, he offers Feyre a level of peace, care, and protection she’s never known. Raised with a father and brothers who were cruel to humans and kept them as slaves, Tamlin stands firm in his opposition to this sort of treatment. He is determined to be kind and fair, showing Feyre and her family extraordinary generosity.

  • Tamlin: (reminiscing) Your human joy fascinates me - the way you experience things, in your life span, so wildly and deeply and all at once, is... entrancing. I’m drawn to it, even when I know I shouldn’t be, even when I try not to be.

  • Tamlin: (angered) Your family is alive and well-cared for. You think so low of faeries that you believe I’d take their only source of income and nourishment and not replace it?

  • Tamlin: Lucien, (Pause) Behave.

Role assigned to: Jayme Lecoeur

A clear, classy, seductive voice to match the regal, merciless nature of antagonist Queen Amarantha of Prythian.

The High Queen of Prythian who rules from the faerie court Under the Mountain. Her unrivaled hatred of humans and desire to control the land make her relentlessly evil and destructive. Determined to force Tamlin to be her lover, Amarantha eliminates any creature that gets in her way.

Pompous, regal, holier-than thou kind of voice, but open to mostly any interpretations. She is the antagonist and should be voiced in a way that makes her sound sinister.

  • Amarantha: (mocking) There are those who seek me a lifetime but never we meet, And those i kiss but who trample me beneath ungrateful feet. At times i seem to favor the clever and the fair, But i bless all those who are brave enough to dare. By large, my ministrations are soft-handed and sweet, But scorned, i become a difficult beast to defeat. For though my strikes lands a powerful blow, When i kill, I do it slow....

  • Amarantha: (seductive) Oh, Tamlin. This girl has the most delicious thoughts of you... I may keep her.

  • Amarantha: (hateful) Oh, so gauche! What do we care for bread and circuses? Who are you to say anything to me? I'm going... to eat... your soul!

Role assigned to: Spicer23

A youthful, clever voice to match the sarcastic, witty and loyal nature of Lucien. Any British accents. English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish... you get the idea.

Second-in-command and close friend to Tamlin. Lucien was a member of the Autumn (Fall) Court, but was forced to flee to the Spring Court when his brothers and father threatened his life. Lucien is steadfastly loyal to Tamlin, but he nevertheless has the ability to speak truth to power. Though he has a sarcastic edge and a biting sense of humor, he understands Tamlin’s desperate need to protect Feyre and Prythian and will do anything he can to help.

  • Lucien: (mocking) If I offer you the moon on a string, will you give me a kiss, too?

  • Lucien: (sarcastic) Did you enjoy killing my friend, human?" "Did you hesitate, or was the hatred in your heart riding you too hard to consider sparing him? It must have been so satisfying for a small mortal thing like you to take him down.

Voice Actress - Nesta Archeron

Role assigned to: Emilie

A classy, condescending tone of voice to match the personality of the protagonist's older sister. Preferably an American accent (from any state)

The oldest of Feyre’s sisters. Nesta is portrayed as jealous, greedy, and cruel, often wearing a sneer on her face. She bears a strong resemblance to their mother. Nesta takes the loss of the family fortune the hardest, but behind her judgmental nature and cold exterior lies a deep love for her sisters.

  • Nesta: (dissapointed) There are days when I want to ask him if he remembers the years he almost let us starve to death. Feyre: You spent every copper I could get, too. Nesta: I knew you could always get more. And if you couldn’t, then I wanted to see if he would ever try to do it himself, instead of carving those bits of wood. If he would actually go out and fight for us. I couldn’t take care of us, not the way you did. I hated you for that. But I hated him more. He’s always known I hate him, even before we became poor. He let Mother die—he had a fleet of ships at his disposal to sail across the world for a cure, or he could have hired men to go into Prythian and beg them for help. But he let her waste away. I hate him.

  • Nesta: (irked) Go spew your fanatic nonsense to some ninny. You'll find no converts here!

  • Nesta: (frightened, angered) The first one who touches me LOSES THEIR EYES!

Role assigned to: A.J Ambrose

A tender, yet striking voice to match the motherly and wary personality of Alis.

A servant in Tamlin's manor house assigned to tend to Feyre. She’s initially wary of Feyre, but nonetheless gives her useful advice on how to navigate court politics and stay safe from malicious fairies. As Feyre’s stay at the Spring Court lengthens, the two develop a more comfortable and respectful relationship.

Alis has a sharp tongue and does not suffer fools. Originally from the Summer Court, her devotion to her nephews and to Prythian brought her to the Spring Court. This same devotion to the cause compels her to share what she can about the curse, doing her part to help Feyre save Tamlin and Prythian, even when all seems lost.

  • (snickers) "If you're wise, you'll keep your mouth shut and your ears open. It'll do you more good here than a loose tongue. And keep your wits about you-even your senses will try to betray you here.

  • "Some folk are bound to be upset about Andras. Yet if you ask me, Andras was a good sentinel, but he knew what he would face when he crossed the wall-knew he'd likely find trouble. And the others understand the terms of the Treaty, too-even if they might resent your presence here, thanks to the mercy of our master. So keep your head down, and none of them will bother you. Though Lucien-he could do with someone snapping at him, if you've the courage for it."

  • I will not accept that…. No, Feyre! I will not accept it. You must become the great woman I know you can be.

But I am grateful for it, whatever it is. Grateful that it brought you all into my life. If it hadn't... I might have become as awful as that prick we're going to face today.

  • Elain: (sarcastic) Eight years of poverty hasn't stripped my desire to look lovely.

Role assigned to: Shadow

A deep, sensual, mature voice to match the enigmatic, wisened, loving nature of deuteragonist Rhysand of The Night Court. British accent.

Rhysand (pronounced "Ree-sand"), male lead role.

The High Lord of the Night Court. Beautiful and clever with a penchant for cruelty, Rhysand maintains a great deal of power because he serves Amarantha. Rhysand makes no attempt to hide his hatred of humans. He is a keen manipulator who knows how to play power games in Prythian (prith-ee-an). Though at first he seems like the novel’s villain, his true motivation is a deep desire to protect his people.

I think a Scottish or British accent could be a plus here, or someone who can sound both smug and regal. Open to different interpretations.

  • Rhysand: (mock hurt) Rhysand? Come now, Tamlin. I don’t see you for forty-nine years, and you start calling me Rhysand? Only my prisoners and my enemies call me that.

Role assigned to: ThriftmanNG

A aging, wounded tone of voice  to match the frail and struggling Father of the protagonist. Feyre’s father was once a wealthy and successful merchant, but when Feyre is a young child, the family discovers that their success is fraudulent. Feyre’s grandfather and great-grandfather had gotten themselves into serious debt, but they didn’t reap the consequences in their lifetimes. When the debt collectors were finally ready to settle the score, Feyre’s father suffered the punishment of generations of bad business. Crippled by the debt collectors, Feyre’s father spirals into depression, as he can no longer provide for his family as a father should. However, rather than work diligently to discover new ways to make money, he allows Feyre to bear the burden of providing for the family via hunting. This builds resentment in both Feyre and Nesta, who believe their father should have done more to step up for the family.

  • (wheezing) “We need hope as much as we need bread and water. Your mother thought the same…”

  • (tearfully) “I fought for my country and my liberty, my honour is assured. Since it is the will of God to separate us on Earth, I hope we'll meet again in heaven. Keep me in your prayers. Your loving father…. Always.

  • “Feyre… You were always too good for here, Feyre. Too good for us, too good for everyone. If you ever escape, ever convince them that you’ve paid the debt, don’t return. Don’t ever come back… You go somewhere new—and you make a name for yourself.”
