Tales of Symphonia Fandub-Main Cast and Episode 1 Roles
Project Overview
This is a fandub for one of my favorite games, Tales of Symphonia. Tales of Symphonia, for those of you who do not know, is an action RPG in the Tales series and is often regarded as the best one. This is my first fandub project I have ever directed, but I have a lot of real world acting directing experience so don't worry about a lack of direction or communication. Also, I will not be alone. My co-director and editor, AverythingArtsy will be assisting me along the way.
Here is a brief description about the game itself, straight from the back of the box:
In a dying world, legend has it that a ChosenThe game is a very long project and we ask that those who are cast remain committed to their roles. If the actors have to leave the project for one reason or another, that's fine. No hard feelings. We just require some notice so that we can recast them. We also ask that the actors who audition have a relatively high quality mic and keep background noise to a minimum.
One will one day rise from amongst the people and the land will be
reborn. The line between good and evil blurs in this epic adventure
where the fate of two interlocked worlds hangs in the balance.
For this audition specifically, we will be auditioning for the main 9 members of the cast as well as side characters who will be appearing in the first episode. We will release additional auditions on an episode by episode basis, as it is a long project and we cannot realistically cast every character at once.
This episode will cover the beginning to the exit from the Temple of Martel.
The original game IS voiced but we don't ask that you do a perfect impression of the original voice actor, but rather we ask that you capture the spirit of the character. Example scenes will be provided for each major role.

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for this Tales of Symphonia fandub. We have decided on our main cast as well as a few other roles that were available during this call. However, if you did not get cast, do not despair! We will be holding more casting calls in the future for future episodes and these future episodes will debut some other main characters. That being said, we did not receive any auditions for the role of the Priest, Phaidra, or Frank. Those of you who wish to audition for those roles still can. And if you are interested in reading for various extra roles (Desians, townspeople, etc) please contact me and we will find something for you to do. Once again, thank you to everyone who auditioned it was tough narrowing down who we were going to cast but we're pretty proud of the group of talented actors we have chosen. Thank you all very much, and if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to message me.
Lloyd is the main protagonist of the game. He is a young hopeful idealist who wants to make the world a better place for everyone regardless of origin.
Here is a good reference scene. The video and audio quality is a little fuzzy, but you can still get the gist.

Give
me your name, and I shall give you mine.Dwarven Vow #4: Don’t depend on others. Walk on your own two
legs.It’s
not the same! This city doesn’t have a non-aggression treaty with the Desians!
How can we go on a quest to regenerate the world if we can’t even save the
people standing right in front of us?!
Colette is a sweet, naive girl who is will to do whatever it takes to save the world. She is the Chosen of Regeneration and can't look away from people in need.
There are additional character details that we will let you know, should you get cast.
Here is a reference scene. It shows how much Colette is will to sacrifice for the sake of others. It does contain some spoilers.

[Casting a spell in battle] Oh,
Holy One, cast thy purifying light upon these corrupt souls... JUDGMENT!I'm
sorry to worry everyone…He
said we can throw the Exspheres away at any time. But right now, we need to
carry the burden of the hopes and dreams of the victims and fight on their
behalf.
Genis is a child prodigy. He is Lloyd's best friend and miles ahead in intellect of everyone around him. He is also the youngest member of the party. Because of his age, we are willing to let men and women audition for this role. While usually very mature for his age, he is still a child and can sometimes act as such. He lives with his sister who has been like a mother to him.
Here is a reference scene. It's near the end of the game and provides some spoilers. But the scene by itself doesn't reveal too much of the plot.

[Sing-song] Ha,
ha. You got re-jec-ted.No, I don't understand, that's why I asked. Are you stupid
or something?Marble?
Marble! NO!
Raine is the professor at the school that Lloyd, Genis, and Colette attend. She is also Genis's older sister and could be described as the mother figure of the party. She is incredibly intelligent and mature. But when she is around ancient ruins, she goes into what is referred to as "Maniac Mode" and she becomes overwhelmed by all the potential knowledge that could be gained for such places.
Here is a reference scene. She is in Ruin Mode here but you can still get a feeling of who she is as a person from the scene.

MARVELOUS!!!
In
order to change the world, I must first change myself. If
you don't understand, then make use of your remaining life to think about what
it means for a person to live. That's my final lesson to you as a teacher. Now
go. Do as your teacher says.
At first glance Kratos is just a mercenary who accepts the charge of protecting Colette in her journey of Regeneration. But it's obvious from the start that there is something more to this mysterious man. He is cold and distant but takes special interested in Lloyd and his training.
More character backstory will be given if you are cast in the role.
Here is a reference scene. There are so few scenes that involve Kratos on Youtube and AREN'T major spoiler heavy, that this 24 second scene was all I could find.

This
isn't a field trip, you know.[after
Kvar calls him a "pathetic inferior being"] Feel the pain- [Kratos
slashes Kvar] of those inferior beings-[Kratos slashes Kvar again and Kvar
falls to the floor] ...as you burn in hell! That's
why war is so tragic. To win means to make victims of your opponents and give
birth to hatred.
Sheena is a strong, confident ninja who has been charged with the assassination of the Chosen. Her motives at first are unclear, but it is clear that she is from far away and is doing what she does for the greater good. She is also a summoner who can summon monsters to fight by her side. She is also a klutz and it is a running joke that she continues to fall into trap doors when she's trying to look bad ass.
Sheena does not enter the story for some time.
Here is a reference scene. This is the scene where she joins the group.

...I’m so stupid. Stubborn to the very end… I really need to
start acting more feminine at times like this and let him rescue me. ...Heh,
that wouldn’t be my style, now, would it?For
the sake of everyone who risked their lives to protect me, Volt! I demand your
power!I am Sheena! I ask that thou annulst thy pact with Mithos
and establish a new pact with me.
Zelos is an unshameful pervert who is willing to hit on anything with two X Chromosomes. He is charming and quick and also incredibly full of himself. But he uses this mainly as a facade to hide the pressure he feels from the high position he has been placed in in society.
Zelos does not enter the story for a while.
Here is a reference scene. It is his introduction scene.

No
offense, but I'm not interested in talking to guys.Even now, to tell the truth, I get tired of all the
problems. Sometimes I think it'd be easier if everyone and everything were just
destroyed.Oh,
you're so cute, Colette!
Presea seems like a quiet and lifeless child at first. But that is because of the Exsphere that has been embedded in her. It causes her to show no emotion and to not age. She is significantly older than she initially appears. And even after she is able to show emotion, she is still not used to the sensation and finds it difficult to express herself.
Presea does not appear in the story for a while
Here is a reference scene. Since Presea doesn't appear until late in the game, it's nearly impossible to find a scene that doesn't have spoilers. But I think this one will do.

You
criticize and attack people for their birth and upbringing - things they cannot
change. It is you who are not human.I
did it, Alicia. I've avenged your death.I
want to go home...
Regal is a very dignified and respectable individual. He is also a convict who wears handcuffs throughout the entire game. He refuses to take them off as he believes he has not done enough to atone for the crimes he has committed. He also appears to have some sort of history with Presea.
Regal is the last party member you encounter. Thus it is a while before he enters the story.
Here is a scene for reference. Because of how late Regal enters the story, it is impossible to include a scene with no spoilers. But I believe this scene will work.

I
like to think that I'm smart enough not to start trouble when I don't
understand the situation.I
promise never to use these hands in battle again. No
matter how hard I try to move forward, I am held back by the sin I have
committed. I am so used to the weight of my sin that I am afraid to let it go.
It's so easy to simply acknowledge myself as a criminal and let it envelop me
in its apathy.
Botta is a recurring character in the game. He begins the game as an enemy of the Chosen and her party but much later in the game becomes an ally. Botta is a strong and stoic person is very devoted to his organization and his cause. In the game he speaks with a British accent, but that is not necessary here.
Sir! We've received reports that the Chosen's group has
infiltrated the facility.I never thought YOU'D show up. Damn. Retreat for now.
Remiel is an angel of Cruxis and is the guide that helps Colette along her journey. He meets them at every seal when they manage to reach it. He is believed to be Colette's father.
He is very peaceful. Yet powerful. He commands a calming, divine power whenever he descends to deliver a message to the Chosen and her party.
I
am Remiel. I am an angel of judgement. The
time has come to awaken the Goddess Martel, who sleeps at the center of the
world.Once
the Goddess Martel is revived by the Chosen, the two worlds will surely achieve
peace, just as the Chosen wishes.
Phaidra is Colette's grandmother. She is a kind and warm person who always has Colette's best interest at heart. She appears in the first couple of episodes but doesn't make another appearance for a while.
Run,
Colette!That
is correct. The Chosen is to receive judgement from heaven. But the priests
that were to accompany her fell at the hands of the Desians.
Frank is Colette's adopted father. He is always very worried about her, but understands her destiny and supports her in all her endeavors .
Frank only appears in this and the next episode.
The
Desians invaded the village just a short while ago. Thankfully, no one was
hurt. They passed through the village and headed for the temple.Good
luck, Colette. Lloyd, Genis. You two should go on home.
The Grand Priest was intended to be one of the individuals that helped Colette through the Church of Martel's trial. Whether he was meant to guide her past that point is unclear as he dies shortly after he is introduced. During his entire scene he is using his dying breath to warn the Chosen that the Desians have attacked the temple and that she must be careful.
The Desians…attacked the temple…
Please
be careful! I regret that I was unable…to protect…the Chosen…
Vidarr is a big hulking brute that is brought in as a ringer when dealing with the Chosen's party at the Church of Martel.
He is the very first boss of the game and he only has only the two lines. When he is introduced and when he is defeated.
Do not get in our way!
I can't...believe I lost...to a bunch of kids!
This is an audition for any and all Desian and Renegade soldiers that have speaking roles throughout the game. More often than not they will have only one or two lines. But the lines they do have need to be said with intent and said with malice.
Lord
Botta, there she is!Well
then, die at the hands of the Desians you so hate! Get them!
