1692: The Risen

1692: The Risen

Project Overview

My name is Andrew Lister, and I'm the writer/producer of The Shadowvane Podcast. We specialize in horror and science fiction radio dramas as well as readings of classic literary tales.

We are currently releasing episodes for a series titled 1692: The Risen. We recently ran into a snag with one of our voice actors, who was voicing Tituba, an African slave woman that turns out in the story to have the powers of voodoo witchcraft. I am looking to potentially re-cast the roler.

Our podcast averages over 4,000 downloads/listens a month, and we are continuing to grow. Unfortunately we are unable to pay for voice acting at this time, but we are trying to gather support via Patreon to be able to do so.

If you are interested in hearing the first episode and the character as she sounds now, you can find a link here: 1692: The Risen - Episode 1 - Laughter in the Dark

Please shoot me an e-mail over at [redacted] if you are interested or need more information.  We are behind on our production due to this issue, so the sooner we hear back from people and their auditions, the better!

Tituba is a slave woman from the late 17th century.  Some of her speech matches what a slave would have sounded like at the time.  There's a mysticism about her as she has been given voodoo powers by an ancient and evil God.  Check the link in the description above to hear the original voice actress's interpretation.

  • [Tituba]  “Why is it no one cries for the innocent women that live deep in the dark of their jail cells?  Who spoke up to help Goody Carrier or Reverend Burroughs when the bad men took them away to break their necks?  They were innocent.  I only follow His orders, and he tell me that girl must be killed.”

  • [Tituba]  “Shhh...take this.  You must not open it until you have cut wounds in all three of their stomachs.  Their blood must flow to the ground to feed the roots of the tree.  Then you will open His gift to you, and you will place one of each into their bodies.  The wounds will soon heal, and then you must go back to your home and wait til morning.”

  • [Tituba]  “You do not wish to disappoint Him, Marshal Herrick.  You have shown much promise.  You are not like those in the court.  I have seen your mind.  You do not wish harm to come to the innocent and mourn those that have hanged, else you would have been there tonight to watch yourself.  I can see within you, Marshal Herrick.  You know deep down that the court must be stopped before it is too late.  And if you foolish and choose to cross me...cross Him...He will have no choice but to treat you as one of them.”
