Mao is one unstable tiny lizard. Which is proven by the fact that this scaly devil hijacked a fisherman boat, ditched it along the way and swam to reach the crew in Hoenn all the way from Alolan for "personal reasons". A feat made rather impressive (and terrifying) by Mao's Fire/Poison typing. After making a mess out of Thwill (the trainer) & Co.'s house, the salandit was forced to stick around to work and compensate for all of the property damage that corrosive poison caused. Oh well.
Mao is an open book personality wise. When something troubles the kid, it's made way obvious by the means of body language and explosive reactions. Mao is quite snarky and sly, in addition of having a weird way of thinking. Mao's actions are rarely the result of malicious intent as much as the outcome of loopy logic. Mao is in no way dumb though. Having grown up on the isolated on top of Mount Wela with Salazzle mama and siblings, Mao is more so ignorant than stupid. However thanks to that background, Mao is an adept of tribal dancing and can be quite ecstatic in the face of learning.
Like I mentioned earlier, Mao's pretty transparent when it comes to feelings. When the lizard hates someone, it's more than apparent and vice versa. Mao also tends to slip some Alolan words into dialogue.
Slightly raspy and right in the middle of good old awkward puberty to match the looniness of the character.
