His confidence and suavity only work to inflate his ego while stifling his compassion and sympathy. He is selfish, self-absorbed, and self-reliant. His voice is smooth and confident, his mannerisms seemingly careless. But when a child enters the picture everything changes. He is forced to think about someone other than himself. It is a child he never asked for, and a child he finds it hard to love. Regardless she would change the direction of his life.

If I depended on my parents to raise me I would have never had the courage to leave the house lest a gust of wind blow me over and shatter me on the sidewalk. Kia doesn't need to be sheltered, I don’t want her to have to face the world by herself as I did.”

“It’s just that… every day I’m at work I’m terrified I’ll get home and she’ll be dead too. The doctor doesn't how long she'll last like this. I have her on meds at least half of the day now. (Emotion peaks) I need her now more than ever.”
