The Nautilus follows a group of intrepid explorers trying to make their way in a cold and unforgiving universe. The entirety of the book is still in an early first draft but I feel I've made enough progress to record the first chapter of the Audiobook as a teaser for the project and to project interest (and frankly if I'm honest a little bit of wanting to actually get some work on the table as this project is many years in the making).
And as such I'm calling upon the CCC community once again in search of talent to help guide this project to completion!
This project is going to very much be a long term endeavor, as the manuscript is currently coming in at around 15 chapters (of varying length), payment will be a flat, per chapter rate and all characters will have their own voices so should you audition please be prepared for multiple rehires (yes, all paid!)
The lifeblood of any audiobook, the Narrator guides the reader (or in this case, the listener) through the story and brings a clarity to the events and reads at a steady pace.
He didn’t necessarily detest the atmosphere. In fact, a few years ago he would have found it quite welcoming. The seats around him were filled with patrons dressed in shiny suits and elegant dresses.
Diggers, ironically enough, was a term that held no literal meaning, though technically perusing through a galaxy scanning for ancient ruins or the occasional crashed ship could be considered by some as ‘digging through forgotten treasure’.
The Council of Races and the United Galactic Nation were terrifying names for a pinwheeler to hear. Although when one’s work was of the same criminal nature as Keez, it made sense; Any mention of authority could bring either of them to shudder.
Occasionally perceived as a "grump", and generally observed as a being with few words, Tomallin fills the role of "The Muscle" amongst his peers. He has keen social skills and is often in charge of diplomatic relations with external parties outside of the ship and their interactions with both Law and Government.
While he rarely speaks for more than a few sentences, his voice should have an air of "sophistication" to it. Nothing super lofty accent wise. A more gruff, deep voice with a very heavily empowered tone should be the aim for this character.
(Blurting out/speaking out of turn) We’re in.
(Sighing/Defeated) Understood, sir.
(Amused/Delivering a joke) I don’t know too much about human culture, but I must assume that you have traditional greetings other than saying the name of the person..
Frenise reads like a bright and chipper presence, her voice should reflect that and be warm to the ear.
(Confused/Pleading) Wh-What’s gotten into you?
(Bitter/Say it with a sarcastic smile) You’re right, we do have jobs aboard this ship. And if you’re down here, you’re not doing yours.
(Cheery, like you'd greet a lover) Aye, love!
Sam, a veteran of the crew. Has a gruff and distrustful tone that fills a majority of the lines she speaks, her accent is also very specific and her voice should hear as she takes no attitude but dishes out plenty. Looking for large and in charge.
(Trying to sound pleasant, unsuccessful) Please do not place your grimy-ass boots on the console. I really don’t want to crash again.
(Blatant sarcasm) Your consideration is well appreciated.
(Anger/Shouting) What the hell were you doing? Are you just incapable of rerouting power? Or do you want this ship to go up in flames?
