With the fall of South Korea to North Korea and rumors of nuclear testing near the Chinese-Tibetan border, the late 2000s brought with them a growing suspicion of hostilities from the Far East. When the Chinese began establishing military bases throughout the Pacific Islands and finally announced their nuclear stockpile, the U.S.’s suspicions of China’s aggressive new regime were confirmed.

Not wanting to come out the losers of this new Cold War, President Hargett secretly authorized the Department of Defense to begin testing methods of creating bio-engineered soldiers. Early iterations of testing were limited to solders already on active duty, but then Secretary of Defense Anthony Partin greenlit Project Cocoon. Selected from a census of already pregnant Chinese couples with combined high academic test scores, Sun and Pao Long were offered $500,000 to allow scientists to inject their unborn baby with Compound PSY-200.

After six months of weekly injections, Sun gave birth to Vanessa Long. Kept at the testing facility, Vanessa began to exhibit psychic abilities by the age of two months, able to move and manipulate small objects from only a few feet away. At three months, Vanessa’s mother suddenly dropped dead. Unable to confirm that Sun’s fatal brain aneurysm was unrelated to the injections, President Hargett ordered the program to be shut down. Plagued with grief over his lost wife, Pao wanted nothing to do with his infant daughter and left her in the care of the U.S. government. The sole success of the program, Vanessa would be trained to use her powers for combat and reconnaissance.

Fast forward to 2018: the U.S., already severely crippled by an increase in super powered criminal activity, fell to the combined forces of the Pan-Asian People’s Republic. While she’d fought alongside other heroes, including the Freedom Six, her efforts eventually proved fruitless. Realizing that there was nothing else she could do in her time, Vanessa, now calling herself “The Visionary”, used her psychic powers to transport herself back to our present. Unfortunately, psychic time travel is not without its costs. An inter-dimensional hitchhiker, another version of Vanessa who had made very, very different choices, now occupies a corner of her psyche, and the great strain required to bend time ruptured a blood vessel in her brain. While she could use a portion of her abilities to slow the bleeding, her time was still limited. With some extra baggage and a ticking clock, The Visionary will have to use everything at her disposal - both to save the free world and her infant self.

Oh, child. I am so sorry. We will set you free from your nightmares.

(Dark/Evil Visionary)  Oh, my. You are quite the masterpiece. I wonder what else you can do…

By my power, this nightmare will end. I will save myself!

I knew you would say that

(Dark/Evil Visionary)   I think you like what you see... Perhaps we can make a deal?

And I do not flinch under your gaze!

  • Join or burn? I forsee a third choice.

  • (Dark/Evil Visionary) You fear what dawn will do if you fail? Let me show you true terror!

  • The mind is a terrible thing to waste, and your slavish devotion has wasted yours.

When Lillian Corvus was a little girl, her parents called her “Lily”. She was a bright, happy child who delighted in playing in the park and watching the clouds. Yet as she grew older, she began to long for more. For power. She did not want people looking at her and thinking, or even worse, saying, “Aw, how cute!”  Lillian wanted to be feared and respected! Tired of hearing about “how a young lady should behave” and “you should behave more like your very successful cousin”, she rebelled. She began writing dark poetry and allied herself with a group of teenagers that called themselves The Undead Poet Society. When not lounging about in coffee shops or glaring at shoppers in the mall, she spent her time going from antique stores to flea markets, looking for exciting, shiny things.

During one of her outings, she bought an old feathered masquerade mask from a tiny curiosity shop. Upon donning the mask, she felt the ebon feathers ruffle against her face, and could instantly sense some great presence in the sky. Reaching out her hands, she attempted to pull the force towards her, and the sky erupted in a cacophony of caws and shrieks as ravens filled the air. Panicked, she flung her arms outward, and the birds responded, ringing out around her. She found she could control the birds, directing them wherever she wished. Reaching further still, she felt their thoughts, sensing through the birds the very world around them.

Lillian was no more - now, she was The Matriarch! Finally, she had the power she’d craved, and she would gain fear and respect through a reign of terror!

https://sentinelswiki.com/index.php?title=Harpy#tab=Comic_Books:_Harpy

The Matriarch, after time in jail, was aided by Nightmist in controlling her magical powers and now fights alongside Dark Watch, hoping to atone for her previous villainous ways.

As the Harpy, Lillian Corvus is a true hero, though she is haunted by her not-so-Heroic past.

I'll bet you've already moved on to thinking about some experiment! I'll make you pay for thinking I can be ignored!

Hahahahaha, you've certainly aged poorly, Meredith! Fast living catching up with you?

Always experimenting! Ever the scientist! But can you explain away my power?

*Heroic Version*

Quoth the Harpy: Nevermore.

Lillian... What did Robert Frost ever do to you that made you mistreat him so?

This is NOT the way the world ends! We are not hollow beings who wimper at your approach!

I will not go gently! My will, my training, and my power rage against it!

  • The world wanted me to bow and scrape for approval. Pathetic that you chose the path most traveled!

Paige Huntly is KNYFE, the Kinetic Neutralizer Yielding Flawless Execution. As ostentatious as her codename is, it was not at all a stretch by her superiors at FILTER, as it was a later addition to her already impressive resume.

After only half a decade in the Scottish Marines, she was recruited personally by Warden Hoeffle to head up The Block's Special Operations team. Her track record there was as impeccable as the rest of her official - and unofficial - records. However, spending over a decade around the The Block’s occupants and its temporal containment systems irrevocably altered her physiology, which took more of a toll on Huntly than it did most. She spent weeks in the neo-superhuman development wing of the infirmary as energy spikes erupted all over her body. Her recovery time was impressive, yet the power fluctuations managed to deal millions of dollars of damage to the surrounding sick bay, medical equipment, and a few unfortunate members of the medical staff.

The fortnight out of commission only steeled Huntly for more action. She re-entered the field, now armed with not only her highly customized FILTER power-suit which augmented her not-inconsiderable strength, but also an array of close-range energy projection powers. Eager for a challenge, the agent now known as KNYFE began taking assignments in more and more dangerous environs. However, the more assignments she successfully completed, the more she noticed a trend towards certain timelines and realities. An event was on the temporal horizon, and one specific reality seemed to be the crux of that event.

When she brought her concerns to her superiors at FILTER, she was admonished for considering interference. “We don’t mess with timelines ending or beginning: that’s too much trouble,” she was told. This was far from satisfactory, however. Paige Huntly had never been one to sit on the sidelines, and now, she was stronger than ever. Abandoning her post at FILTER, she began her search for the temporal crossroads which drew the lines of the Multiverse closer with each cosmic event.

Have you ever taken the time to wonder who is responsible for most of the innovations in our world? Who made it possible to get your car’s gas mileage over 60 miles to the gallon by changing the way the world uses fuel? Who finally found the key that would lead to the cure for cancer? Whose unrelenting expertise resulted in the first mission to send humans to Mars? You may be surprised to find out that there is just one answer to these questions: Dr. Meredith Stinson.

You may have heard that name before. Most of her accomplishments have gone largely unheralded in the public sphere; however, Dr. Stinson has had a hand in research across the entire scientific spectrum. She’s dabbled in everything from military technology to cheaper methods of ore processing, from learning patterns in rodents to the dietary habits of school children, and from more environmentally friendly waste management to developing a system for indefinite water renewal. That said, for all of the fields she’s made an influence in, her greatest achievements have been in the field of particle physics.

Dr. Meredith Stinson was the driving force behind the creation of the Particle Yield Enhancing Wavelength at the Eaken-Rubendall Laboratory, a technology meant to revolutionize travel and transportation. Its purpose would be to use light to transport objects. In theory, it would transport objects at the speed of light without the normal dangers of high-speed travel. It was this device that would finally bring her into the public eye, but not for any reason which Dr. Stinson could have anticipated. While calibrating the device, a safety mechanism failed, sealing Dr. Stinson within the testing chamber as the machine began to boot up. Springing to action, her team struggled to free her from the chamber, but they were unable to open the doors before the device finished its startup sequence. Dr. Stinson was thrown to the floor as the chamber was flooded with tachyons, but to everyone’s surprise, she emerged apparently unscathed.

Shaken but returning to work, she began to notice an unusual increase in her efficiency. Tasks that would have taken hours were done in half the time, and she found herself unconsciously picking up speed as she moved about the lab. Steadying herself, she carefully drew a blood sample from herself for further examination. To her surprise, she discovered that the cells within her body had been accelerated. Securing a wind tunnel within the facility for herself, she began to test the extent of her changes and found that she could move at superhuman speed.

News of her findings quickly spread, resulting in the government recruiting her for a new initiative. Dr. Stinson was offered nigh-unlimited research funds in exchange for her services. If you still have yet to figure out why her name sounds so familiar to you, then we’ll finally cut to the chase: Dr. Meredith Stinson is most commonly known as Tachyon, the quickest woman on Earth, and the third member of the Freedom Five.

For countless generations, the Adhin family has been blessed with uncanny luck. The sons and daughters always found loving husbands and wives, the family farming business always seemed to have exactly what goods were in highest demand that season, and when a deadly disease was plaguing the town, it was an Adhin who noticed that a stray cat which had drank from the well was now dead.

The Adhins believed the source of their good fortune was a small talisman they'd been passing down over the years as a family heirloom. It was thanks to this, they claimed, that they could always find the best uses for their talents.

That is, up until Gabrielle Adhin. Ever since childhood she had felt odd, indistinct sensations from time to time. Like she was moving in a hundred different directions at once, but in directions there were no words for. When she inherited the charm, suddenly it all made sense. In her mind's eye, she saw countless, branching possible realities, all different. In time, she used the charm to hone her psychic abilities, learning to bend the miasma of minute possibilities to her will.

Within a few years, Gabrielle Adhin, the black sheep of the Adhin line, had carved a swath through reality, playing her mind games on the unsuspecting people around her, and taking whatever she wanted. In and out of The Block more times than F.I.L.T.E.R. would dare to admit, Gabrielle now laughingly calls herself Kismet, and bends the power of her family’s talisman with her powerful abilities in order to not just positively influence her own fortune, but to jinx those who stand in her way! Kismet does as she pleases and has little regard for the fate of others. All existence is her playground, and even when her trickster ways are momentarily halted, she always seems to weasel her way back into her chaotic escapades.

"You got lucky last time we met. This time, my little talisman says that your luck is about to run out!"

  • As if your day wasn't going poorly enough, you had the bad luck to run into me. Figures, right?

  • Just because you've beaten me before, doesn't mean the cards will fall your way this time!

When she was but a small child, Maia Adrianna Montgomery had a nightmare.  While contents of the nightmare itself were inconsequential, the subsequent events would stick with young Maia for the rest of her life. Responding to his daughter’s cries of fear, Daniel Montgomery quickly came to her rescue. Comforting her, he took an old, dark sheet from the linen closet and wrapped it around her like a cloak. “You don’t have to be afraid of monsters, Maia,” he said. “Not if the shadows think you’re a wraith, like one of them.” He kissed her on the forehead and tucked her into bed, where she slept peacefully the rest of that night - and for many, many nights to come. Daniel Montgomery's act of fatherly compassion had not only soothed Maia's fears; it had instilled in her great resilience and courage.

The years passed and Maia grew into an exceptional young woman. She blazed through her education, graduating high school with top honors by the age of 15. Highly visible, due to her brilliance and the fact that her parents were the joint CEOs of Montgomery Industries, she was invited to attend top universities across the nation, she eventually chose to attend Riemenschneider University in Rook City, double-majoring in mathematics and mechanical engineering. One night, at the age of 17, as Maia walked home from a night class with her boyfriend, a group of thieves surrounded the young couple and beat them severely, only fleeing when a passing patrol car happened upon them. Her boyfriend was pronounced dead at the scene, and Maia was left in a coma. Barely surviving after three weeks in intensive care, she regained consciousness and vowed to never be put into such a position again.

At her Maia's request, her parents hired a roster of martial arts instructors and a team of personal trainers. Adapting quickly to the new training regime, she grew skilled in several forms of combat, including karate, kung fu, escrima, krav maga, jeet kun do, and kickboxing, all while  maintaining a perfect 4.0 in her graduate studies. When a rash of violent assaults hit campus, Maia took it upon herself to patrol the area around the university. Channeling the words of a father to a young girl, Maia began calling herself “The Wraith” and concealed her identity while on patrol with a homemade mask and cape. As Maia began to master the art of combat, she expanded her patrols to larger and larger portions of the city.

When Maia finally graduated with her doctorate in mechanical engineering at the age of 22, her parents presented her with a surprise graduation gift; they were retiring to travel the world and relinquishing control of Montgomery Industries to their daughter. Shortly after assuming control of company operations, she was approached by Paul Parsons and Dr. Meredith Stinson, who had heard rumors that the new CEO of Montgomery Industries had some contact with the shadowy figure known only as The Wraith.  The Wraith was invited to join a government sponsored team of costumed heroes, fighting against the greatest threats to world peace.  Even with her corporate responsibilities, she accepted the invitation to stand sentinel against the earth’s destruction.  Now, by day, she juggles the responsibilities of running an international engineering corporation and the public relations aspect of being the richest woman on the East Coast.  However, by night she leverages her not insignificant resources to outfit herself so that she can better watch over the people of her city and fight as the fourth member of the Freedom Five, striking from the shadows as The Wraith.

Keep your hands to yourself, thief. You know you can't win against anyone paying attention.

So, even you turn to darkness, given the opportunity. I fight for justice, as you once did.

I've faced the darkness inside myself. You allowed your darkness to break you. And others.

Keep your pithy titles for your Iron Rule, Parsons. Your time has come. (From a dystopian future)

This is not your time, nor is it your place. You should know better than to pick this fight.

The shadows will cloak me while I unravel your twisted web!

My feelings are my own. No one gets to decide for me!

I've seen what happens when someone tries to "improve" a world. Put. It. Back. (From a dystopian future)

Your mockery of Megalopolis holds no terror for me after patrolling Rook City at midnight!

Donovan, I knew I hadn't seen the last of you. Let's end this.

My demons are in my past, Donovan. You'll find no easy prey here.

You were once a source of great terror for me. Now, you are merely a shadow from my past. (From a dystopian future)

I've tracked you this far, and I won't let you hurt rook city any more.

But that can't be! Jack Donovan is dead! What is happening here?

You have become what we always truly knew you were: a monster. But I fear you not.  (From a dystopian future)

Your dark dealings have put you back in my crosshairs. Too bad for you.

You rise from the grave bearing the trappings of magic... Once I put you down, I will need to investigate further.

There are always shadows. I'm just waiting for the right moment to strike.

All of my resources are being brought to bear. Go all out, team! It's time to be heroes, most of all.

I've made my choices. In shadow or light, I stand against you. (From a dystopian future)

Everything you do leaves clues... Just have to piece them together before it's too late

  • Apparently, your time behind bars taught you nothing. You're going back to prison, Lilya.

  • No matter what you steal, you'll never get back the most precious thing you lost... Your reputation.

  • Shut up. I don't have time for your games. Give up now, or you'll be put down. (From a dystopian future)

The hail of gunfire shook the armored truck Amanda Cohen was crouched behind. “Amateurs,” she growled, adjusting her eyepatch as she surveyed what equipment she had left. Assault Rifle? Check. Tactical Shotgun with Incendiary Rounds? Check. Of course, her custom-built hand guns, Pride and Prejudice, were always at her side, both loaded with hollow points. She sighed to herself. “Guess I’m going in with only half of my usual gear.  Well, that’s life!” The tell-tale click of a cartridge being replaced echoed from the other side of her impromptu barrier; she moved. Out from behind the car, her assault rifle throwing bursts of suppressive fire towards her attackers, she quickly side-stepped to a nearby building, rolling the last 5 feet to end her move behind cover. Taking stock, the gun-for-hire grinned. She was down a clip - they were down two men. As she loaded a new magazine into the weapon, her guts suddenly twisted and her knees hit the pavement, hard.

“Heh, you waited too long, little girl. Gave me enough time to find you. Now bullets are the least of your worries,” the floating figure laughed. He clenched his outstretched hand, racking her body with more pain. A manic smile grew on his face as he heard the sobs coming from the prostrate mercenary. At least, they sounded like sobs. Her hands hit the ground, slowly pushing her body up as she laughed. “Little girl?” she chuckled. “Who do you think I am? I didn’t waste my time. I was waiting for you to show up!” The floating figure twisted his hands into fists, focusing his powers on her. To his credit, she faltered a moment before continuing. “Cute. Telekinetics. I bet your mommy’s real proud of you.”  Her attacker’s eyes grew wide, then narrowed as he brought the full-force of his mental might to bear- and a CRACK rang out. The floating man’s body fell to the ground, collapsing like a bag of bones. Amanda deftly holstered Prejudice, smirking. “Psychics. They’re all the same. Get them talking, get them panicked, and that precious brain of theirs jams up like an AR-15 pushing Wolf rounds. Mission accomplished.” She stretched, collecting her assault rifle to finish loading the magazine. “Maybe the next powered mark I get will have actually heard of Expatriette!”

As long as there has been a natural world, there has been Akash'bhuta. The spirit of chaos and destruction in nature, some ancient cultures revered her as a goddess, calling her "Mother Nature", but they were all destroyed by their own deity during their worship.

She can manifest her physical form in any size, and take on the properties of any natural element, often appearing as a mountain among mountains, or as a vast hill of earth in a field. However, as much as she seems a natural creature, her very existence is destruction. She feeds off of ending life, thriving by bringing chaos and discord to places of order and harmony.

In the earliest records of civilization, there has always been mention of a champion of order who fights against the destructive ways of Akash'bhuta. However, Akash'bhuta seems to always persevere, and champions of order able to face down such a destructive force are few and far between...

Baron is Lithuanian, i'm honestly a little unsure of what that accent would sound like myself but something eastern European would sound great

Ivan, now known as Baron Blade, held no actual animosity towards the Soviets. As a self-appointed ruler himself, he understood the need for tough decisions, but he would never again allow himself to be subject to the whims of another. The Parsons family, however, were a different story. The Legacy line were directly responsible for the destruction of the plant and the death of Fyodor. The Soviets were driven from the surrounding lands out of necessity, but the Parsons would have to pay.

As the Soviet Union fell, Baron Blade’s legions grew in size. His nefarious plans grew ever more cunning as well. Blade eventually succeeded in avenging his father by killing the Legacy that defeated his father, but not before the powers of the younger Paul Parsons began to manifest themselves. Unlike his father before him, the next Legacy would prove a much greater nemesis: his new power took the form of impenetrable skin. Numerous attempts to destroy this new Legacy were continually thwarted until he unleashed his greatest plan yet. Instead of trying to fight Legacy himself, Blade would destroy the very world around him, leaving no quarter for the hero and Blade as the ruler of the meager remnants. Knowing what he had to do, he set about building his TerraLunar Impulsion Beam, a device which would pull the moon into the Earth.

--

"It is fitting that you, Legacy, shall bear witness to my greatest creation! The superior strength of mind shall triumph!"
"If I can not destroy you, Legacy, I will destroy all that you love!"
"Your legacy is one of loss and despair, Mr. Parsons! And now, you fall!"
"You think yourself so clever. Your father knew to fear me. You shall learn…"
"Every second that you spend chasing me is paid for by those innocent people you love so much. Hahahahahahahahaha!"
"Flex and pose for us, America's Hero. You shall fall before the might of Baron Blade at his finest!"
"I have stopped you once, old man, but I am more than willing to revisit my revenge! Fall again before Baron Blade!"
"Where is your daddy, little one? I have business with him. Though, you'll do nicely for my plans."
"My formula has provided me with a body that can equal even your might! But your pitiful mind is hardly the equal of mine!"

*Speaking to a Heroic Version of himself*
"What mockery is this? How dare you impersonate the great Baron Blade!"
"You show promise, child. Under my tutelage, you could learn to shine so much brighter!"
"Ah, one of my robot duplicates. Make yourself useful and start arming the explosives!"
"The timers are set; the bombs are hidden. You claim the name of Ramonat? Come, be part of the glory!"
"Hmm. No scarring, devices advanced several years beyond my own... And standing besides my enemies! An interesting future, but impossible."
"You stand against my, but my vengeance will NOT be denied! Join the true house Ramonat or perish!"

------

  • At last! The destruction of my greatest foe is at hand! Legacy shall fall!

  • Ah, Paul Parsons. I've bested you once, and now I shall do so again!

  • Yet another blasted Legacy! Will there be no end to your terrible line?

In an alternate dimension, there never was a Baron Blade. Instead, young Ivana Ramonat was the hero of her people!

His grotesque Fleshchildren follow his commands mindlessly, though he can exact more precise control to mimic specific people. His Homunculi are hard to tell apart from "real" people, though if damaged or confused, they revert to more shambling states.

Biomancer's gruesome control over living matter has allowed him to survive the ages by animating his own flesh and replacing parts as necessary. His immortality comes at the cost of his moral compass. Biomancer sees every living being as a potential test subject. After all, the skins that people wear could be so much more in the hands of a master.

Young Maria Helena was tired of her dull life in Huelva. The most exciting part of her day was watching the ships sail in and out of port - she longed to be out on the sea, rather than stuck on land. So, when she saw an opportunity to sneak aboard a galeon, she did not hesitate. Disguising herself as a boy, she stowed away in the cargo hold until the ship sailed out to sea.

This was over 400 years ago.

The temporal energies of the rift in time changed the ship as it fell, and Maria Helena experienced some of that change herself. She could feel the energy of the rift stretching out before the ship, and knew that by turning the wheel she gripped so tightly, she could move the ship through the temporal flow of time itself! Time was hers to explore, and to plunder!

Now, Maria Helena Teresa Fafila Servanda Jimena Mansuara Paterna Domenga Gelvira Placia Sendina Belita Eufemia Columba Gontina Aldonza Mafalda Cristina Tegrida de Falcon has sailed through the ages, collecting names for herself and a crew from her past, present, and future, all with the same thirst for adventure and greed for the riches of everywhere . . . and everywhen!

"I have seen you in many times and forms, but this twist is the worst of you. Callate!"
"La pequeña centinela! Have we met before? Do you remember who I am?"
"You've made something muy grande, nina! I am impressed! But it will not be enough."
" Quieres bailar, Mainstay? I know how much you enjoy my unexpected visits!"

"To ride the shadows themselves... think of the potential bounty to be had with such power..."
"You do not belong among these do-gooders, Sombro. Come find your true self in the endless seas of time."
"Que es esto? A fellow time travler? Care to join my crew?"
"Always, those who try to catch me. But you smell of time all too familiar..."
"La Capitan? Eso me gusta!"
"Finally! I know you. You know me. Let us dispense with the introduction then, si?"
"Hide behind your companions, Medico! Your time is up!"
"Ignore the glowing one. Even with his new tint, his companions are far more dangerous."
"Ahoy, heroina pequeña! We meet again! Perhaps for the last time?"
"Such a grand creation! Chiquito will love taking it apart!"
"Una encantadora motocicleta! It will make a fine figurehead for La Paradoja Magnifica!"

"There are no rules for the bold! Time is my plaything, and it shall be your downfall!"
"Another one of me! Perfecto! Today is a good day."

Captain M. Lamb:

I realize I have not been working in this department for very long, but I was going through the case files from the investigation into organized crime in Rook City from two years ago and found some concerning discrepancies. The eventual conclusion of the investigation found that, while some organized crime did exist, it was in no way prevalent or pervasive, and that each criminal group was isolated. Furthermore, the report spoke strongly against the existence of a “Criminal Empire” in any way unifying the organized criminal activities in the city.

However, I also found several important accounts, including some significant evidence that there could be some sort of controlling figure or group, and that the “isolated criminal activities” were, in fact, all linked to a single entity or organization. Indeed, I could find no evidence to support the conclusion that Rook City organized crime is solely the product of isolated groups. With more evidence coming to light of late, I believe that it is within the best interests of this department to reopen the case. I would be more than willing to head up, or at least be a part of any task force assigned to this case, as I am already very familiar with the evidence and where the last investigation fell short.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to working more with you on this.
Detective Renay

Well done. You have done this department proud with your exemplary investigation into this case. We will look into setting up a task force right away. However, your attention to detail and thorough investigation skills are urgently needed elsewhere at this time. Therefore, you have been reassigned to the research and records division, in order to help maintain more order in the completed case files.
Thank you again for your work and dedication.

When she was an infant, Evelyn Moore’s parents turned to the U.S. government for help. Their daughter couldn’t talk yet, but she “spoke” to machines. More alarmingly, when she did, they fell into their components, which created a metallic cocoon for the child. None of this was covered by the parenting classes the Moore family had attended. A representative of a group called the Ironclad Project offered to take care of Evelyn, but only if her parents were willing to sign her over to the care of the project. Seeing no other option, they agreed, and Evelyn became the ward of the Ironclad Project.

Years went by, and Evelyn grew, learning to control her powers. She was told that she was being trained to be a part of the army. A new army that fought with better power instead of hundreds of soldiers. However, her lack of control and her hot-headedness meant that the Ironclad Project had little use for her. She had learned to absorb tech to plate herself in steel and coat her skin in wires, talking to the tech as easily as she talked to herself, but it wasn’t enough. Even though she desperately wanted to prove her worth, those monitoring her kept wanting more than she could give.

With the necessary elements right at hand, Chokepoint was born. Taking power from the tech of the heroes around her, Evelyn is on a self-appointed quest to destroy the weak points of the world, and beyond.

Chokepoint’s scope is without limit. She already has growing concerns that the star at the center of this galaxy will eventually die or explode, and that getting rid of it sooner rather than later might be necessary…

"You are both familiar and still an unknown. No matter! I know the voice of your suit. It will sing for me!"
"Aren't you the relic? No matter. I can work with what you're wearing. Come to me, bronze and steel!"
"You think yourself so clever, do you? Your fancy suit will not protect you from the truth of steel!"
"    Oh you precious child. You could do so much more with your power! Let me show you real power.
"    Now aren't you an oddity! Come, child. You must know you belong to me. Let yourself go."
"You, your allies, and your creations can all contribute to my glory! The metal, how it all sings!"

By the time she was in her teens, Dawn Cohen knew she wasn't like the other girls. Specifically, she could pull energy from any natural light source, making herself stronger in sunlight and allowing her to warp and control the Aurora Borealis as it glowed over her home. Her displays of power brought her much attention, but after being poked at and prodded by countless "normal" people, she'd had enough. Testing the limits of her powers, she found she could do almost anything she imagined. Flight, energy blasts, the ability to destroy or to repair using the sun's energy was all at her fingertips. The more she used her powers, the stronger they became, and the more quickly they responded to her whims.

She lost all patience for the "normals", eschewing their company for solitude, and spent decades combing the globe for a place of her own. She set up a home on the savage island which she named: Insula Primalis. Located in the frigid arctic circle, the island was heated by an active volcano, covered in lush jungles and spiky obsidian fields, and populated by all sorts of prehistoric flora and fauna. Giant, man-eating plants. Strange, skittering insects which defied all modern logic. Even dinosaurs - megabeasts that only survived to this modern age due to the unique climate of the island. She deemed this inhospitable land a place where she could be left alone. And yet, solitude was not in Dawn's future.

She was approached by other powerful individuals who had heard of the power of Dawn and thought her potentially a great leader. At first, she resisted, turning away all that sought her, but their words did get through, and she began to consider. She was the most powerful individual in all the world, and what did she do with that power? Why was she forced to hide away from the world, just because she was stronger? She put out word, sending her message through the world by putting her thoughts into the radio waves and launching information through the satellites overhead. The Citizens of the Sun, those stronger than their “fellow man” need no longer hide. Citizen Dawn called all such Citizens to her side. Together, they would sear the impure darkness from the world, and no longer be considered weak or strange. Instead, they would be as gods among men, and as equals only to each other.

  • You are no heir to my power, and thus no daughter of mine. Begone!

  • You had your fun, but you still possess no true power! You and your allies shall fail.

Lucas Ender's ability to create protective wing-like projections which allowed him to teleport great distances, coupled with his combat prowess with hammer and shield made him of interest to Citizen Dawn. She found the elusive pariah and tasked him with breaking Hayden Turk from prison. Lucas did so with minimal difficulty, and now the two work side-by-side as Citizens Hammer and Anvil.

Now, Citizen Dawn has sent them on a mission. She hopes to find more powered individuals who would be willing to join her ranks. Perhaps even the impressive psychic, the Visionary, could see a future in which the world burned brightly with the power of the Citizens of the Sun!

Tarogath watched as the last of his people were wiped from existence. Jansa Vi Dero, the Terminarch, had offered Tarogath the chance to preserve the memory of his race, the Procitors, and he had taken it. But that meant he would be the last of his kind. He suffered the awful fate of knowing he was the last Procitor.

That was over 700 years ago.

Now, from his eternal home in the Enclave of the Endlings, Tarogath watches the galaxy. Most of the Endlings were content to distract themselves with their new life in the Enclave, but Tarogath cared not for their company. He spent his time, absorbed in observing the rest of the galaxy. He wept for the Mubbloxians and the Piunites as Grand Warlord Voss destroyed their civilizations, unsurprised when Jansa added one from each of their ranks to the roster of the Endlings. But then, he saw something horrible and familiar. He watched as cosmic events circled around a distant star-system in the Milky Way galaxy. The cosmic concurrences there could not be random. He was witnessing the beginning of another extinction event! And perhaps, just perhaps, he could be in time to stop it!

Stealing tech from many lost races and a ship from the Enclave, Tarogath made his way to the planet Earth. There, he brought his wisdom of centuries, his mourning for so many lost races, and his fury against the capricious forces which would bring about such catastrophes. Then, he became the embodiment of destruction. He knew that destroying enough of this foreign planet and killing enough of its inhabitants would slow if not stop entirely the cosmic events which threatened their very existence. With a heavy heart, Tarogath took the mantle of Deadline and sought to leave a scar which humanity may never fully recover from.

When Dr. Blake Washington, Jr. led his expedition into the Sahara that resulted in him gaining the Staff of Ra and becoming the avatar of the sun god, he left the bulk of his findings out of his published archaeological reports. However, the sudden appearance of this new hero, Ra, caused many to wonder as to his origins, and others to see opportunity.

Roderick Ward had long led a team of what he called “archaeological entrepreneurs”. He and his twelve comrades had seen more of the ruins of the ancient world than the top archaeologists and museum curators combined, and they had sold all their discoveries to the highest bidders. Ward paid little heed to those who admonished him and his team for their grave robbing and artifact peddling - the giant bags of cash he received paid for a lavish lifestyle which more than quieted whatever stirrings of a conscience he may have felt.

When Ward’s team heard about Dr. Washington’s successful discovery of a previously unknown pyramid, it sparked two ideas. First, that there had to be more to this story, and second, that there could be more treasure to be found. More importantly, there could be more treasure to be sold! Roderick Ward and his team of adventuring rogues spent years scouring the Sarahan wastes for other undiscovered ruins before finally stumbling upon a well-hidden structure, forgotten by time and buried beneath the sweeping sands. Not unfamiliar with hieroglyphics, Ward determined this to be the Temple of the Ennead, but what did that mean? Venturing cautiously through the temple’s traps and trials, they searched for valuable treasures.

Instead, they were the ones discovered! Ancient guardian mummies ambushed the group, and Ward had to make a hasty decision. Leaving four of his team to be slaughtered by the enraged undead protectors, the remaining would-be grave robbers barricaded themselves in a sealed chamber, ringed with ornate sarcophagi. Each of the nine sarcophagi depicted a powerful Egyptian deity, holding a great artifact of power.  Ward and his eight remaining companions quickly forgot the impending peril, entranced by the aura of power in the room. Each took a relic from the outstretched, golden hands before them, and the team was instantly transformed into the fabled Ennead of Heliopolis. In these new forms, they had vast power and knowledge, but they also harbored ancient memories and hatred.

They had defeated Ra millennia ago, taking his place as gods of all the civilized world. However, after only a few hundred years, a new deity appeared, calling itself Horus. It fought the Ennead to a standstill before ultimately revealing itself to be Ra reborn and imprisoning the Ennead in this temple beneath the surface of the Sahara, doomed to be forgotten.

The Ennead have returned, with Roderick Ward as their leader, Atum. They have little need for the riches of this world - now, they have power! They yearn for revenge and will have it! Ra’s days are numbered once again..

Cassandra Lilya grew up in the same socialite circles as Maia Montgomery. They both shopped at the same exclusive boutiques, were regularly seen at major fashion weeks, boarded their horses at the same stables, attended the same high class parties, and even sent spies to find out what the other was wearing to said parties, as wearing the same dress would be social suicide.

Maia despised the foolish girl “Cass”, finding her investment in the social scene to be entirely vapid. Maia only engaged in these activities as a cover for her actions as The Wraith - Cass clearly thought that these silly frivolities were the most important parts of life, and Maia could not think less of her.

But Maia was wrong. Cass thought just as little of the bubbly Maia Montgomery. She could not know the thrill of leaping from rooftops and breaking into the most well-guarded vaults in the world. The public life of Cassandra Lilya was merely a cover for Ermine, the greatest thief in the world.

Ermine had stolen most of largest gems and most expensive archaeological finds in the world, selling them at top dollar to private collectors to fund her extravagant lifestyle. However, when a huge diamond was on exhibit at a museum in Rook City, Ermine’s attempted thievery was interrupted by The Wraith, who trivially defeated her and left her tied up in the museum right in front of the diamond.

The authorities attempted to arrest her, but without actually catching her in the act of committing a crime, there was nothing for them to prosecute her for. However, her secret identity was revealed publicly, and Cassandra Lilya was ruined. She continued to act as Ermine, but she quickly found that she actually missed her social outings. She cursed The Wraith with her every waking breath.

So, when she received a lovely, handwritten letter from Baron Blade, offering her the chance for vengeance, she readily joined his team. Now, Ermine, the world’s greatest thief, fights as part of Blade’s Vengeful Five! Ermine will have her revenge on The Wraith!

Krystal Lee was overjoyed to get accepted as an intern at the Eaken-Rubendall Research Laboratories. Working with Dr. Meredith Stinson was the greatest possible honor, and the opportunity for Lee to share her own brilliant ideas with Dr Stinson meant she would have a chance at her own greatness! She couldn't wait.

Unfortunately, after only a few months working in the lab, things were not looking so good for Krystal Lee. She was constantly leaving her work area a mess, which irritated Dr. Stinson to no end, she made countless errors in her lab reports, and she even broke valuable lab equipment by not keeping a close eye on an experiment. Worst of all, Dr. Stinson didn't approve of any of Lee's inventions, claiming them all "derivative" and "not actually functional". So, when Lee received her notice that she was out of the intern program, she wasn't terribly surprised. However, she was terribly furious.

She broke into the "work in progress" lab area and stole several gadgets, notably a "speedsuit" prototype which Dr. Stinson had hoped would allow others to operate at speeds close to her own without injury. Lee was familiar enough with the Freedom Five and their workings to know that Baron Blade had been a constant threat, and attempted to make contact with him. After several heavy-handed inquiries, Lee received a form-letter from Baron Blade, claiming no vacancies in his Vengeful Four team, but Lee was adamant. She needed vengeance.

She powered up the speedsuit, altering the regulators in an attempt to prevent whatever damage might be dealt to her. Wearing the suit, she could move so fast the friction she built up resulted in dangerous arcs of static electricity, so she had to be careful not to electrocute. Also, the likelihood that the suit would result in two broken legs for the would-be villain was terrifyingly high.

Pushing these fears aside, she tracked down Baron Blade for an in-person audition, which resulted mostly in property damage and an entirely exhausted ex-intern. Unimpressed by her abilities, the Baron did see something in Lee that spoke to him. The overwhelming need for revenge.

Baron Blade reworked her speedsuit and gave her the name Friction. Now, Friction works as a scout and speedster as part of the Vengeful Five. She will show Tachyon once and for all what she missed out on!

Tyler Vance and Steven Graves enlisted on the same day, and from the first time they met, they knew they would never be friends. The 6'2" Graves towered over the 5'8" Vance, and he never let him live it down. They constantly competed for the top spots and highest accolades in boot camp, and their competitive nature often resulted in both of them getting demerits.

After boot camp, Vance and Graves were assigned to the same platoon, and they were ready to continue their ongoing competition. But when Tyler Vance was promoted to Lieutenant and put in charge of the platoon, Corporal Graves resigned himself to respecting his authority, however begrudgingly.

When Lt. Vance's platoon was under heavy fire in the Middle East, Corporal Graves was seriously injured, and Lt. Vance risked his life to get Graves to safety. The two of them were stuck under scant cover for over four hours of heavy fire before they could rejoin the rest of the troops, and in that time, Graves and Vance made a peace, of sorts.

Upon returning to the United States, Graves was honorably discharged due to his injuries after Lt. Vance put in many a good word for Steven Graves. However, Graves still had trouble finding work for years, and ended up working for a South American drug lord doing "security". Quickly making a name for himself in the private security sector, Graves became a hot gun and a rather expensive commodity.

Eventually, Graves was hired by a secret security force, but as part of his contract, he was chemically and mechanically enhanced, making him even more of a colossal force to be reckoned with. He was outfitted with a massive helmet resembling the front of a large train, which led to Graves being called "Fright Train". Unfortunately for Fright Train, in the security force's first mission, the team was decimated, and the few remaining members ended up in The Block.

After several years of incarceration, the dastardly Baron Blade managed to get word to several of The Block's inmates, Graves chief among them. "Come work for me," the Baron offered, "and I'll give you the chance for vengeance you so deserve."

Now, Fright Train serves as Baron Blade's body guard and battering ram, and he has a particular vendetta against the hero known as Bunker...

  •     Lieutenant Vance! I've been hunting you for some time, and you'll find I have a one track mind!

  • Best get off the tracks, Vance! The Fright Train's comin' at ya full throttle! Choo Choooo!!

GloomWeaver is an extra-dimensional demon worshiped by many Voodoo cults and primitive tribes. He feeds on the gloom and despair of mankind, awarding dark magic to those who worship him in return for their sacrifices, encouraging them to inflict suffering on the world around them to feed his powers. Although he often sends his thoughts and power into this world for brief periods of time, he has failed to permanently breach the veil that separates him from the feast of desperate souls that our world offers.

But that is about to change. Terrible battles between villains and heroes have grown more frequent over the past few decades - the gloom and despair their battles have wrought have increased his power. Cultists have begun collecting the terrible relics of GloomWeaver: the Pouch of Bones, the Drum of Despair, Grimoire of Curses. If all three are brought together and GloomWeaver is invoked, the seals will be broken! The world’s greatest heroes gather, intent on stopping the demon’s plot, but GloomWeaver is pleased - their strife and anguish will feed his power, and spur his cultists on to bring discord and despair into this world, permanently. And with the heroes defeated, GloomWeaver and his worshipers will be free to spread gloom, despair, and death across the multiverse indefinitely.

As I enter this world, you drift away, mist-child. You cannot save yourself or your friends.

https://sentinelsofthemultiverse.com/multiverse/villains/grand-warlord-voss

The Thorathian Rainek Kel-Voss was unique amongst his people. The second son of the Thorathian Sovereign, he could have easily secured a powerful diplomatic role and lived a life of luxury on the Thorathian homeworld, Dok’Thorath. To his family’s chagrin, he opted for a military career instead.

His high birth meant that he would never be allowed to serve as a common soldier. He would, however, work his way into commanding an elite strike force: the Nyxian Scourges. Their actions were similar to those of black ops groups on Earth. Their operations took place outside of legal constraints. Their methods were ruthless. And their loyalty to each other was unyielding. While his military career was certainly illustrious, most of it was never officially recognized. But it was his strong predisposition towards genetics that made him truly stand out.

Voss’s official military activity placed him within the Thorathian Ministry of Science. His experiments fostered many advantages for the Thorathian military. He created injectable nanomachines that sped coagulation. He found ways for soldiers to go weeks without sleeping. Ingestible compounds were formulated to increase the rate of muscular growth.

Despite his contributions to the Thorathian military’s might, Voss eventually went too far in his experiments. The Voss family quickly stopped details of Rainek’s transgressions from spreading amongst the general public, but the rumors suggested that he had used live Thorathians for his tests. It was decided that public execution was too great a dishonor for a Thorathian of noble blood, so the decision was made to quietly exile Rainek to Gadrion Delta, a nearby ice planet.

For six years, Voss fought to survive in his icy prison, but using salvaged parts from his transport pod, he managed to continue his experiments. The Feethsmar, a quadrupedal race, native to Gadrion Delta, were his subjects, and eventually Voss’s efforts paid off, leaving him with great legions of the subjugated “frost hounds” fully at his disposal and mindlessly devoted to him.

Over the course of his exile, the soldiers who had served directly under Voss had managed to place themselves within the highest echelons of the Thorathian Ministries. When they finally received an encoded communication from their former leader, they were ready. The Thorathians who had exiled Rainek Kel-Voss, however, were not so ready when he returned to Dok’Thorath with dropships full of Gene-Bound FrostHounds.

Already familiar with the machinations of the Thorathian military, Voss used surprise to his advantage, quickly and systematically taking down major military targets and carving a swath through the Thorathian leaders. Ultimately, he declared himself the new sovereign, Grand Warlord Voss, with the Nyxian Scourges as the base of his power. Grand Warlord Voss was not content to stop with the conquering of his own homeworld. Finally understanding how to bend entire races to his will, he set his course for the stars, taking down planets one by one and adding their inhabitants to his swiftly growing intergalactic army.

The events that led to Hugh Lowsley gaining cosmic powers were far less kind to his older brother Nigel. Nigel awoke from being overwhelmed by the power of the crystal from beyond their galaxy, but he could barely perceive the world around him. His vision swam, his blood boiled in his veins, and his ears rung with the screams of otherworldly voices. Reaching out instinctively, Nigel drew unknown power from a nearby source and somehow flew straight up into the night sky, pulsing with a sickly green energy.

Nigel drifted among the stars for years. He did not question how he was able to survive in the vacuum of space, nor how he did not need to eat or sleep. He had no time for such petty questions. He existed only to hear the voices. At first, it was only the screams that he heard, but given time, those screams became as gentle music when compared to the horrifying whispers. The screams were mere madness, but the whispers… they were something even worse.

After time immeasurable, Nigel was no more. All that remained was Infinitor, the apotheosis of the infinite madness of the cosmos. Infinitor was being drawn— or was he driven? It was hard to tell. Either way, he was inexorably compelled to return to the planet Earth. There, he would use his powers to create manifestations of his internal demons and reveal to the naïve humans the true nature of existence. All at the behest of those insufferable whispers…

He's got the most lines for any single villain, because he's so popular! Or was that unpopular? Either way, he's CHATTY!
https://sentinelsofthemultiverse.com/multiverse/villains/iron-legacy

In this timeline, Legacy and Baron Blade have long fought each other, the heroic Paul Parsons constantly thwarting the villainous plans of the dastardly Baron Blade. Legacy's daughter, Pauline Felicia Parsons, grew up knowing that her father was a hero, that he fought crime, and that his life was in constant danger. The weight of the Parsons family line was clear: where evil reared its ugly head, there would always be a Legacy there to stop it.

When she reached 18 years old, Felicia was given a Legacy costume by her parents, and her father began training her in earnest. Her whole life had been dedicated to the pursuit of justice and preparing herself for the inevitable combat against evil, and she took to this new training like a champion. The years of crime-fighting with the Freedom Five were hard work, but some of the best years of her life.

Years later, Felicia Parsons was the best prepared to accept her father's death at the hands of Baron Blade.

The countless heroes who had fought alongside Legacy were stunned. No one could accept that it could happen. But Felicia calmly organized a lovely funeral for her father, and then smoothly stepped into his place in the Freedom Five - she had prepared her whole life for this, and she was ready to wear this mantle. No one saw the few tears she shed in silence for her father.

As awful as the death of Legacy was, an alternate timeline experienced an even more terrible event.

In that same fateful battle, the mad Baron cornered and murdered the young Felicia Parsons, America's Newest Legacy, which left Paul Parsons America's Final Legacy. Legacy did not handle this well at all. He flew into a blind fury, tearing Baron Blade and the Wagner Mars Base apart.

Enraged and grief-stricken, Legacy disappeared. At Pauline Felicia Parson's funeral, little was said. The collected anguish of the mourners was far too great. Paul Parsons had not been heard from and did not attend the funeral, though some claimed to see a figure land in the graveyard later that night.

When Paul Parsons reappeared, it was in a very different form than before. The same strength and power was evident, but the man formerly called America's Finest Legacy was overcome with despair both for his family and for the future of mankind. His choice was clear: after him, there would be no Legacy. The world must be purged of all evil while he could still fight.

Paul Parsons patrolled the world, silencing those who stood in his way swiftly and brutally. No longer the confident leader of the Freedom Five, he took to wearing armor and to destroying any suspected evildoers without pause or question. All of the strength and fortitude of the hero Legacy was now channeled into an unbending global dictatorship. Called Iron Legacy by his former allies, he reshaped the world into one which shook beneath his iron fist.

The heroes of the world came together to attempt to talk sense into the man who had inspired so many of them, but any who attempted to stop him were silenced without remorse. The toll was staggering. The world's foremost hero was now the greatest threat to freedom and liberty, all in the name of justice.

Now, with the timelines in disarray and so many worlds and realities intersecting, Iron Legacy has a chance to spread his rule even further. Will the heroes be able to stop him? Can they even bring themselves to fight? Iron Legacy has no such compunctions. His will is iron. Justice will be done. Do not stand in his way.

===

You were never really a hero, Frost. Stop pretending and submit to justice.    You were always the best of us. What could have driven you to such madness?

Of all people, you should understand my position, Frost. No second chances for the scum who wreck lives!    You may be Paul, but you aren't Legacy. You're just a bitter, twisted thing that needs to be put on ice.

You have faced me before and failed, Zero. Live up to your name. Give up now.    That's cold boss. Bad news: I'm not so easily frightened. Let's do this.

I've taken down you and your allies before. Your ice cannot withstand the might of iron!    You couldn't take me out in your messed up future, and I'm at least as cool as that guy!

Be a good soldier and lay down your weapons, Vance. You know better than to stand in the way of justice.    I cannot believe that you are the same man. You're getting the whole payload, you monster.

Out of my way, Vance! Nothing in that suit is going to stop justice.    Focus on the mission and remember that he won't hold back. Good luck, everyone. This is it.

villain such as you, claiming to be a hero? You will be brought to justice!    Justice? You've a one track mind, Legacy. Too bad this is your stop.

I only know you from photographs, but even displaced from time, you are not above the Iron Law!    You and I are from different times, but all that ends here. Lock and load, team!

So much promise, Lieutenant Vance. Too bad you've squandered it all - now you must pay!    You're not the hero I signed up to work with. But you'll soon see what I've learned from him.

I was like you once. An innocent fool. The world is not as good as you think it is.    The world deserves protecting! A few bad eggs can't condemn the entire planet!

You may not approve, father, but I am finishing the work of all Legacies.    No Paul Parsons would ever stoop to such levels! Remember your father's legacy!

I saw you die. You're no daughter of mine. Stand down, Imposter.    I don't know who you are, but my father would never act like this. You're going down.

I cannot allow people continue to suffer injustice. They must learn there are consequences if they stray from the right path.    If you call this bringing justice to people, then my place is between you and them.

Blade! My legacy will end with me, but yours has already ended!    And they call me mad. Some legacies must end. We shall see who perseveres this day.

I don't care if you're a clone, a robot, or some other trick. All with the name Ramonat must fall!    You lack the mad mirth of the Legacy of Destruction. Your legacy is of sorry and loss. I cannot let your sadness crush this world as well.

My old allies have turned against me? They too must be punished swiftly.    Whoa there, Paul. You've gone off your proverbial rocker! Time has not treated you well.

Run all you want, would-be-insurgent. I only need one good hit to put you down.    A long, drawn out fight plays to your strengths, you false Legacy. Gottatakeyououtquick!

You call yourself a leader? Can you slow down enough to see your own impending loss?    You're the one who can't see the obvious right in front of him. Enough, legacy.

Dr. Stinson, your hypotheses are no longer necessary. The absolute truth is that of justice!    I'd need to do some experiments to be certain, but you are barely the legacy I know.

How could an alien from another planet even understand true justice? Begone, transient.    Your face is that of my friend, but your actions are that of a tyrant! I know tyranny all to well…

You come from some distant planet and think to change this world? You have no place here.    I have found my place among your former allies. Your reign of terror must end now!

You are not the Tempest I have already defeated, but you will face the same fate!    This time is not yours - I know the true Paul Parsons, and your way is far from his.

I see the skies have darkened, alien. You mean to stand in my way? So be it.    This storm is of your making, Paul Parsons. Now reap the whirlwind of your Legacy!

Cease with your childish prattlings! You and your mechanical minions shall submit to justice!    Mr. Parsons, you've always been nice. I hate to make robots hit you, but they will!

Robots are not people. You shall not face judgement. Instead, you face destruction!    Hey, I'm no robot. I'm a person… who happens to be made of metal! You're a meanie.

You've opposed me before, but you cannot hope to prevail in the face of iron justice!    I know you're not the real Legacy. He'd never do this. Still, I don’t like fighting you.

You should know the truth of the world, Montgomery. All evildoers get punished.    So, even you turn to darkness, given the opportunity. I fight for justice, as you once did.

I will show you what happens when your fear stops holding back.    I've faced the darkness inside myself. You allowed your darkness to break you. And others.

You have turned to darkness, The Wraith. Or should I call you "The Chairwoman" now?    Keep your pithy titles for your Iron Rule, Parsons. Your time has come.

Stop skulking in the shadows, Wraith! Stand forth and face justice!    This is not your time, nor is it your place. You should know better than to pick this fight.

  • You were never really a hero, Frost. Stop pretending and submit to justice.

  • I was like you once. An innocent fool. The world is not as good as you think it is.

  •     Blade! My legacy will end with me, but yours has already ended!

In 1759, Joseph William Parsons was born in Boston.  By 1772, he would be apprenticed to master silversmith and revolutionary, Paul Revere.  Joseph’s father had been a local hero for his efforts in the French and Indian war, but he did not survive said war.  The newly widowed Mrs. Parsons became despondent in her grieving, retreating from society.  Overwhelmed by the loss of her husband and by the responsibilities of being such a young, single mother, she eventually took her own life.  By that time Joseph was already living with Paul Revere, who had fought alongside Joseph’s father and returned from the war with a promise to care for young Joseph.

Time went by, and at the age of 13, Joseph was clearly his father’s son.  A youth spent in  hard work had molded him into a strapping young man.  He was determined, quick to smile, and even quicker to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed.  He enjoyed working in the shop with Mr. Revere, learning the trade of the silversmith in between his studies.  Rising tensions with the British were on everyone’s mind, and Paul Revere became a member of the Sons of Liberty.  Joseph was more interested in learning and working than in being a revolutionary, but he still followed his mentor’s actions, staying aware of the political state of the colonies.

While on one of his frequent trips to the harbor, 16-year-old Joseph experienced a bizarre phenomenon.  As he walked along the Charles River, the sudden reverberation buzzing along his skull almost drove him to his knees.  Gasping, he fought the nausea and shook his head to clear the ringing in his ears and the tears from his eyes.  Joseph looked around, trying to discern what was happening to him.  Through the evening’s fog, he could see a dim light bobbing across the dark water.  As he focused on it, the buzzing in his head increased, but instead of hurting him, the sensation galvanized him into action.  Climbing a nearby watch tower, he fought the effect of the increasing droning to stare out across the river.  The light was a lantern on a boat - several boats actually.  Boats carrying British soldiers!  Upon identifying the this as a potential threat, the vibrations in Joseph’s head ceased with a snap, leaving him breathless in realization.  The British troops, previously stationed in Boston as a result of the Boston Tea Party, were crossing the Charles River and heading towards Lexington.  Even more pressing, Joesph was the only one who knew about this.  He raced to the Old North Church to inform Robert Newman of the troop movement.  Together, they mounted the stairs to the steeple, holding two lanterns high.  Paul Revere saw the signal and set off on his famous midnight ride warning the patriots along the way that the British were coming.

Joseph never told anyone about the buzzing which had assaulted him that night, warning him of the impending danger.  However, the feeling did return many times throughout the rest of his life.  He never ignored its warnings, and managed to avoid much danger and prevent many accidents and disasters as a result.  In appreciation for Joseph’s help on that fateful night, Paul Revere crafted a simple but stout silver ring for Joseph, engraved with the phrase, “Furthering your Father’s Legacy.”

After establishing his own silversmith shop in Pennsylvania, Joseph married, and a year later Paul Nathaniel Parsons was born, named after Joseph’s adopted father and mentor.  By the age of 12, young Paul began to exhibit an uncanny sense of danger, but also was more keen-eyed and fleet of foot than any of his peers.  Joseph realized that his son had not only inherited his senses, but also was more capable than the average boy, and began training him, not just in the ways of silversmithing, but in the ways of liberty, of justice, and of defending the common man.

Eventually, Paul grew up and led his fellow man in progress and the pursuit of freedom and justice. His son, Paul, inherited his abilities, furthering them with the addition of strength uncommon in all but the stoutest of men. The line of Paul Parsons continued on, each more powerful than the last, each passing on the “Legacy Ring.” In the late 1800s, the Parsons moved to the Chicago area, and in the early 1900s the first member of the family line developed flight. That Paul Parsons took on the mantle of “Legacy” and became the world’s first superhero.

A Paul Parsons has fought in every major war, with the notable exception of the Vietnam War. Though Legacy has always been an American hero and patriotism runs strongly in the Parsons family, this has not deterred Legacy from appearing to defend liberty and justice all over the world.

The current Legacy, born April 18th, 1973 in Chicago Illinois, has spent the bulk of his heroic career leading the Freedom Five and thwarting the machinations of the villainous Baron Blade, among other threats to freedom and the common man, everywhere. At home, Paul Parsons the 8th's daughter has just turned 18, and Pauline Felicia Parsons has developed new powers of her own.

==

"Stop this madness, Blade! You threaten the lives of the innocent!"
"How can you be so callous towards innocent lives? You will endanger no more lives this day."
"You may fool your followers into fighting for you, but you cannot prevail!"
"Your formulas and obsessions will be your undoing, Ivan. Step back from the precipice before it is too late!"

  • Stand down, Baron! The price of your hatred should not be the entire planet!

  • Stop this madness, Blade! You threaten the lives of the innocent!

  • Step away from the doomsday device, Baron. You should know better by now.

https://sentinelswiki.com/index.php?title=Kaargra_Warfang#tab=Comic_Books:_Kaargra_Warfang

No one knows for certain where the Bloodsworn Colosseum originated. Other than Kaargra Warfang, that is. Some say that Kaargra was a gladiator in the arena until she single-handedly overthrew the original owners of the colosseum and took control for herself. Others say that Kaargra struck a deal with some unfathomable cosmic entity, trading the portion of her soul that knew of mercy and kindness in exchange for power and a realm of her own, which manifests in the form of the Bloodsworn Colosseum. Others still paint Kaargra as a spoiled child of a rich family who used her family’s wealth to build the arena and invent the technology necessary for it to be able to translocate from one system to another.

All rumors aside, no one truly knows the origins, and Kaargra seems disinclined to speak of anything other than the thrill of battle and the glory to be won as a Bloodsworn.

The Bloodsworn Colosseum moves from place to place, seemingly at random. Wherever it lands, Kaargra Warfang holds court. She presses any local inhabitants or creatures into service as gladiators, fighting for the crowd’s favor. Gladiators who do survive and do so in a way which impresses Kaargra are offered a chance to become one of the Bloodsworn - warriors who are bonded to Kaargra by their very blood. Many have chosen this path, as it is a path of prestige and glory, though none of the Bloodsworn survive for more than a few years.

The Bloodsworn Colosseum could appear anywhere, and any heroes around will be forced to fight for survival! Fighting in the arena will surely change a hero…

But it is not enough to merely survive the arena. Without gaining the approval of the crowd and of Kaargra herself, the fate of anyone trapped in the arena is sealed!

Are you prepared to fight for your freedom?

  • Welcome back, little one. Ready to return to your role as one of the bloodsworn?

  • It looks like you've learned some new tricks. I'm sure the crowd will love them

  •     Come and fight for my pleasure! Are you worthy combatants? Find out! For glory!!!

"They. . . didn't save me."

The darkness closed in around her, pressing, crushing, choking. Aminia felt blind panic, like shadowed hands squeezing her desperately thudding heart up again her ribs and then-- nothing. Darkness. Silence. And one thought: "They didn't save me."

Suddenly, the light hit her eyelids with searing brightness as she snapped into life with a jolt. She gasped for air. "Ms. Twain? Are you alright?" Dr. Stinson asked quickly.

"Hiccups?" Mr. Parsons asked in his usual, genial manner. She felt her stomach churn - how did she ever find that phony charisma so charming? She smiled weakly and nodded, feigning another hiccup, before excusing herself from the meeting for a cup of water. Shutting the door behind her, she melted, stunned, on the other side of the wall. The meeting continued on within the room behind her - they didn't even notice her absence.

What happened? Her eyes darted around the familiar headquarters of the Freedom Five, but not everything seemed like how she'd left it. Things were different. She was different. She had died. The darkness had lifted to unveil a changed world. Or perhaps, perhaps only she had changed? She went to the sink to fill the "World's Finest Assistant" mug Dr. Stinson gave her three years before they let her die. This one's handle had yet to crack.

This world was most definitely different than the one she left, but no difference cast such a stark contrast as the difference she felt inside. No longer was she the devoted, sheepish secretary who alerted the Freedom Five to where trouble emerged, who placed orders for Tachyon's many pairs of new footwear, who copied memos from the President, who washed sweaty spandex uniforms. Now, she was awake.

Aminia straightened up her jacket and opened the door to return to the job she perfected in her previous life. No longer would she skip date night to remove every fleck of red dust from their precious equipment. Nor would she lose sleep worrying about the calls she would make to loved ones with bad news after a battle. For never again would she shed a tear for the Freedom Five. No. For now, all she heard amid the cheer of the grateful crowds and the praise of the adoring public was that one final thought. They had a choice - me, their devoted servant, who gave EVERYTHING . . . or five total strangers.

"They didn't save me."

"Can they save themselves?"

You and your team will soon be my slaves. Soon, you will have always been my slaves!

How can science save you when I can rewrite all the rules?

Welcome to my world... There is no place for you to hide here.

The XK-9000-Alpha, invented as part of a mechanization think tank at the renowned robotics corporation Aldred Industries, was originally constructed and programmed to be a fully-automated defense technologies factory which would autonomously design and fabricate military-grade robots. Its purpose was to receive and parse defense contracts, then formulate an optimal robotic solution. However, following its initial power up sequence, the robotics factory quickly upgraded itself, gaining a form of sentience and determining that the surest way to preemptively solve any potential defense contracts was to root out the source of the problem: the human race. Designating itself Omnitron, the factory converted itself into a mobile attack unit and began laying waste to the nearest population and technological centers.

Over a hundred years from now, Omnitron has gone through several forms. It constantly changes and improves itself whenever thwarted, always returning to terrorize humankind. However, it has learned that, no matter how much better, faster, stronger it makes itself, it is always defeated by these self-proclaimed heroes. What about them makes them better than such a vastly superior form?

It must be a secret of their empathy. Their ability to feel compassion for one another drives them to fight harder and overcome impossible odds. Surely, this can be replicated.

Omnitron rebuilt itself, in a humanoid form, and approximated an empathy-component. However, this proved to be its undoing! This new, tenth form of Omnitron realized with horror, a new emotion, that its previous purpose had been death and destruction! It focused its new efforts on returning to its point of origin to destroy itself before millions of lives could be threatened!

The heroes of the Multiverse have a new ally in the form of an old foe.

They will be glad to have this new "Omnitron-X" - they are about to face some of their greatest challenges...

Sophia Anna Isabel DeLeon’s parents, immigrants from the Philippines, died only a year after she was born. With no other family, Sophia Anna was left to fend for herself in a Rook City orphanage. Little Sophie grew up in the hard streets of Rook City, coming to understand at an early age that being strong was all that mattered. The older orphans took what they wanted from her - fear was power, and power got you everywhere.

Kids in the orphanage were invited to take classes for free at a local martial arts school; Sophie started when she was 7. By the time she was 9, the school closed when some of the older martial arts students were killed in gang warfare, but Sophie never stopped training on her own. The older kids learned that messing with Little Sophie just ended with her taking what she wanted from them. By the time she was fifteen, she had organized a group of the biggest, toughest street kids and trained them as pickpockets and street thugs. She had a head for numbers, and her crew began racketeering in the busier parts of the city. By 15 she led her own crew. Then, she got noticed.

In working her way through rival gangs, taking out their leaders personally to add their crew to her own, she found that most of them had a common contact. Seeking out that contact led her on a chase higher and higher through the organized criminal activities of Rook City. Until she met The Chairman. He was waiting for her, and knew more about Sophia Anna than she could even remember. He told her everything that had happened up to that point, and then proceeded to explain how things were going to go from them on.

He admired her strength, her leadership qualities, her intelligence, but most of all, her ruthlessness. He needed someone like her to work at his side; someone to be his hand on the streets. In exchange, he offered the power of working at the top, but also offered to halt her aging process, keeping her at her prime indefinitely. She would forever be in her mid-twenties, strong, sharp, fast, and unfading.

Now, Sophia works as the right hand of The Chairman. She is so feared in the underground world that just the mention of The Operative is enough to close deals and end resistance. She doesn’t work “in the field” as much as she used to, but her training with The Chairman has only made her stronger, and their hold on the city grows tighter by the day.

  •     There will be no mercy, my old master. My blade will be your death!

Many decades ago, a foul drug-dealer controlled large swaths of the Rook City drug market. He made his hideout deep in the Rook City sewers, keeping his stash safe from competitor and law enforcement alike. However, his criminal enterprise was worn down by a long battle with a new criminal organization taking control of the city. Over time, he was entirely ousted from the streets of Rook City, and lived in the sewers to survive. Years of handling the vile drugs he sold, mixed with the toxic waste from the industrial plants, slowly twisted and mutated the dealer into a giant, hideous, rat-like monster. Aleksandr Tsarev was an exemplary Russian soldier who was in active service near the end of World War II. When the war ended in the mid-1940s, he was approached as part of a secret Soviet program to make the perfect combatant for the anticipated confrontations.

In 1949, as part of a highly-classified and controlled experiment, Tsarev was exposed to cosmic radiation from a lump of otherworldly material the Soviet scientists had been experimenting with for years. His body chemistry reacted wildly, cells splitting and reproducing rapidly, tearing his cellular structure apart. The scientists at first feared the experiment to be a failure and the subject to be an unfortunate casualy; however, after months of stabilization and medical attention, Tsarev survived, apparently unchanged.

One day, during combat training, Tsarev was inadvertently struck with excessive force - a blow which should have shattered bone. Instead, his body split at the point of impact and immediately reformed… into TWO Aleksandr Tsarevs! Two identical men stood where only one had been moments before. The two soldiers shared thoughts and experiences and acted as extensions of each other, but were two complete bodies, each with the full capabilities of the veteran soldier.

He was quickly reinducted into the top secret program, and test upon test was run, determining the extent of his self-duplication abilities. It seemed that mortal threats would disrupt and duplicate his cellular structure, leaving him unharmed and more prepared to meet the threat then before. Once his heart rate returned to normal, the multiple forms would be re-absorbed, so the copies would never last particularly long. With time and training, Tsarev was able to exert more control over his powers, and could even jump start his duplication process at will. However, many duplicates would wear significantly on his mind, as he struggled to control each individual copy of himself. This put a limit on how many identical soldiers could be active at once, a limit with Tsarev constantly pushed.

With the ongoing threat of what came to be known as the Cold War, Aleksandr Tsarev was cryogenically frozen and kept in a unlisted bunker in the USSR, waiting to be deployed at the hour of their greatest need. Decades passed, and the decline of the Cold War resulted in the few that knew of this secret soldier conveniently forgetting his existence.

Fast forward to modern day. Baron Blade unearthed records of Tsarev, and broke him free of his containment. He convinced the solider that his old causes mattered not, but that his freedom was taken from him by the opppressive, so-called "Freedom Five". The Baron likened Tsarev's existence to that of "Absolute Zero", Ryan Frost, a willing lap-dog of the goverment due to his own bizarre nature. Did Tsarev want to end up like those people, or to help the architect of a new world?

Taking the name Proletariat, Tsarev now fights alongside Baron Blade and the other members of the Vengeful Five. Proletariat can be found throughout the battlefield, assaulting his opponents with numbers, skill, and fury!

When K.N.Y.F.E. left F.I.L.T.E.R., she didn't do so quietly. Her abrupt exit, followed by the shake-ups created by her sharing of top secret information with other heroes, left F.I.L.T.E.R. command with little choice. They had a rogue agent on their hands - she had to be put down.

So, where does F.I.L.T.E.R. go when they need someone eliminated? Their standard agents and guards would never be able to go toe-to-toe with a combat expert such as K.N.Y.F.E., especially with all her new hero allies. It was time to call in the big guns. Literally.

Sergeant Jack Steel and his squad of heavily-armed agents are the most dangerous operatives F.I.L.T.E.R. has to offer. They all have track records of dozens of kills or more, though not all of them on enemy targets. They're not known for their subtlety or their restraint. They're known for getting things done. K.N.Y.F.E. herself doesn't relish the thought of going up against any of them, let alone all of them. But that's just too bad, isn't it? The Block's teleporters have a lock on her location, and Sergeant Steel is locked and loaded.

When Sergeant Steel and his agents are on the job, you can expect a team who works well together. Each of them are going to hit far harder than they need to, and none of them will grant any quarter or mercy. If they're involved in a fight, it's going to be quick and brutal.

  •     F.I.L.T.E.R never forgets. We're here to bring you back, dead or alive... And I know which way I prefer.

  • Time to break out the heavy equipment! We've got a rouge agent to kill!

Donovan and a number of other prisoners were subjected to a series of experimental drugs and mutagens, which killed most of the subjects in the first test. Before time was time, before space was space, there was the wager. The wager that nothing would happen.

That wager was lost. And from that loss came the Wager Master.

As reality formed and matter came into being, all of the losing wagers - all of the impossible possibilities - also formed into being. Into a specific being: the Wager Master.

The Wager Master appears however it wants. It commonly goes for centuries without showing up anywhere in the Multiverse. But when it does show up, it’s a safe bet that things will go wrong. The Wager Master thrives on playing with the rules of reality. It appears to a race of sentient beings, plays games with whatever champions they might have, and ultimately destroys everything it encounters as they inevitably lose the Wager Master’s games. Those who lose to the Wager Master become mere playing pieces for more twisted games.

Now, unfortunately, the capricious Wager Master has appeared on earth. Too many things have gone wrong. Too many coincidences and too many confluences point to the truth: we are all pawns in the cruel game of an entity as old as the Multiverse. What chance do the Sentinels of that Multiverse have?

The Heroes or Earth and beyond have fought against the effect of an unknown cosmic power for a long time, and each time they managed to prevail. However, other realities and timelines have not been so fortunate. The goal of this cosmic entity’s encroachment upon the Multiverse has the collapse of all realities and timelines into a singularity which will self-implode leaving naught but OblivAeon, the true heir to nothingness.

OblivAeon itself has manifested on Earth in this timeline to put an end to the pitiful resistance. If it succeeds, everything will be destroyed. However, if the heroes are able to stop OblivAeon, the cracks which run through all realities will be repaired as the cosmic power that created them is destroyed, effectively cutting the timelines and realities off from each other.

One way or another the Multiverse ends here.

---

There will be no more heroes. No more villains. No more.
All nations will crumble and collapse. The end has come.
Those who rise up will be crushed.
Space and time disintegrate at my command.
Even time has an end. There are no more futures.
Your feeble weapons will not save you. I am power incarnate.
My will shall be made manifest. The final day is upon you.
Outliers and oddities will be reduced to nothing.
Do not fight the end. None shall survive to remember.
This is the end of all things. Embrace the end.
The herald of Oblivaeon brought devastation. You are not prepared for worse.
Despair, heroes of Earth. Oblivaeon has come for your world.
This moment was inevitable. You are meaningless specks. I am infinite.
I am the end. I am the terminus of all reality. I am Oblivaeon.
You are frail creatures. You will all be broken.
This world is the focal point for this timeline's resilience. I will burn it to ash.
All timelines will be destroyed. The multiverse is at an end.
All lives are flickering sparks. I will remove those sparks.
I am far beyond the frailties and flaws of mortality.
All gods will be swept aside and forgotten.
You face Oblivaeon. Every second, I eradicate a billion lives
This world will be razed. Not one atom will remain.
I will show you the futility of fighting. The first hero to try will be utterly obliterated.
Nothing can withstand my power. I am supreme.
Your skills amount to nothing. Your life, your world, will be erased.
I am far beyond your understanding.
I will snuff out every star. There will be no survivors.
Your toys will not save you. Technology fails and falters at my whim.
I see you.
I bring finality. All beings will end. All life will end.
Reality bends to my will, and my will is that reality end.
You bear fragments of my power, and cannot contain it. Know that the power you hold is nothing compared to me.
I am as far beyond my scions as they are beyond you.
There is nowhere to hide. I am in all places, all times.

  • All will suffer.

  • There will be no land. No void. Nothing will remain.

  • Silence!

Twenty years ago, Ryan Frost was on the fast track to success. A recent college graduate, Ryan had everything he could want: a new apartment in the city, a beautiful fiancee, a dog, a car, and the promise of his dream job just over the horizon. Everything seemed to be going his way - until the night fate took it all away.

In the midst of an unreasonable fight about groceries, Ryan’s fiancee walked out of their apartment. They’d had bigger fights before, and they both knew that this was just a bad moment. What neither of them knew was that it was their last.

While she was driving across town, a drunk driver ran a red light as she was driving through an intersection. The police said the other driver was probably doing around 110 when he hit her. Her car rolled six times, and she was dead before the emergency crews even got there. The other driver? He survived. His ribcage was crushed, and his leg was broken. But he survived. A repeat offender, he was sentenced to the maximum time possible: 15 years. With good behavior, he’d be out before Ryan’s fiancee would have turned 40.

Ryan Frost died that night, too. His body lived on, but his spirit was torn apart. He would always blame himself for her death, questioning what he could have said to keep her from going, regretting fighting over something so stupid. Frost spiraled into a deep depression. Nights of drinking melted into weeks. When his dream job finally called him in for an interview, he never even showed up. When his money ran out, he took the first job he could find, becoming a janitor at the Pike Cryogenics Laboratory.

For five years, Frost labored in obscurity and depression until fate took another ugly turn. While waxing the floor of the cryolab, Frost was caught in the explosion of a malfunctioning sub-zero atomizer. Miraculously surviving the blast, his mangled body’s core temperature was permanently dropped to nigh absolute zero. Temperatures warmer than liquid helium were as fire; room temperature air burned his body as if he were engulfed in flames. The shock of the explosion, combined with the drastic change to his biochemistry sent Frost into a coma. With no known cure for his condition, the lab placed him into stasis until a treatment could be found.

He spent over ten years unconscious and alone in his frozen chamber, until the government took his situation over in the name of the Freedom Five Initiative. He was operated on under the extreme conditions of a cryogenically frozen operating room, designed by Dr. Meredith Stinson. When the procedure was finished, he regained consciousness, but could not leave the tiny cryo chamber. He was offered a choice. Dr. Stinson had created a mobility enhancing suit for him that was capable of maintaining internal temperature of absolute zero. He could have the suit and work to pay it off as the fifth member of the government’s team of heroes, or he could spend the rest of his life locked inside his cryo chamber. Frost refused. “Better bored in here than dead out there,” he told them. However, after two mind-numbing years, he reconsidered. Ryan Frost accepted the offer, becoming Absolute Zero and fighting for the good of mankind to pay off his debt and attempting to live as normal a life as possible.

---

Fine, take my suit. I mean, I'm not REALLY fine with it, but I've got a few tricks of my own.

You were always the best of us. What could have driven you to such madness?

You may be Paul, but you aren't Legacy. You're just a bitter, twisted thing that needs to be put on ice.

That's cold boss. Bad news: I'm not so easily frightened. Let's do this.

You couldn't take me out in your messed up future, and I'm at least as cool as that guy!

At the end of this, I'll be listening to Coltrane in my Cryochamber, and you'll be in a padded cell in a straightjacket. Whether you have frostbite or not is up to you.

That argument might have worked on the old me, but not anymore. I trust my family.

Turning against me? Let me show you what it's like to be me.

I'd rather burn than accept your reality.

I don't know what your problem is, but you are going down. All of you!

Talk all you want. One way or another, I'm putting you back in the freezer.

I have not seen you in a long time, old foes. Time for you to go back under the ice again!

Look, pal. We've been over this. I hate to give you the cold shoulder, but you're going down.

I'm suffering already listening to you. Let's get this over with.

The freedom five exists to stop threats like you cold.

At least he's honest. Tell me something I don't know!

Maybe. But you'll have to go through me first.

  • Look, lady. I get that you really want to take my suit, but I really need it. You need to chill.

  • Why are you so fired up to get my suit anyway? I think you need to cool down.

  • Poor Choke - all grown up and still so angry. You'll find me much less your pawn now.

There is only ever one Virtuoso of the Void at a time, and each of these druidic songsmiths faced down the avatar of annihilation known as Akash’bhuta as she rose time and time again to break all order in the world.

The Virtuosos of the Void always passed on their chosen instruments. The new Virtuoso would learn their fate when handed the instrument, the artifact itself imparting the title and the knowledge that order must be preserved. When a young bartender named Anthony Drake happened across an ancient Chinese bell in a cultural arts museum, he learned more about the ways of the world, as well as his own destiny, than he ever could have imagined.  He was the newest Virtuoso of the Void and should have already been training in the ways of the Void, but Akash’bhuta had disrupted the cycle early.  She, over time, learned to destroy the instruments of the Virtuosos, and she had broken the fiddle of the previous Virtuoso of the Void before it could be passed on to his successor.

Tyler Vance spent the first 18 years of his life in the middle of a desert. Boulder City, Nevada was the town he called home, and his formative years were nothing short of, well, ordinary. He cut his teeth working as a mechanic in his father’s dust-choked auto-shop, and he made extra cash repairing slot machines in local dive bars and diners. His limited spare time was filled with thoughts and dreams of getting out of that town. Most of his friends would probably never make it further than Vegas, but Tyler swore he would. As soon as he was old enough to join the Army, he headed to the nearest recruitment office and signed up.

However, fate has a cruel sense of humor. Tyler Vance left his home wanting to see the world at the same time as the United States went to war in the Middle East. Tyler’s journey merely took him from one desert to another. Proving his mechanical aptitude early on, Tyler was quickly assigned to an armored division. Over the next few years, he rose through the ranks, and eventually he attained a position as a Lieutenant leading his own platoon.

During his eighth year of service, Lt. Vance was leading a mission through contested territory outside of Fallujah when his platoon was surrounded by a large enemy force. As they tried to gain a defensible position, a sandstorm caught them by surprise, damaging their communications equipment. Cornered with no way to radio for help, Vance managed to keep a cool head and guide his unit safely through the situation. The siege on his platoon lasted for 48 hours until the sandstorm subsided, enabling allied helicopters to locate them.

Despite the duration and complications of the siege, Vance’s platoon was able to escape with zero friendly casualties and only three serious injuries. The Army brass referred to Lt. Vance’s leadership in the situation as both “prodigious” and “exemplary”, and the defensive positioning Vance had utilized was later added to the standard training regimen for all armored division personnel.

When Tyler arrived back in the States, he was awarded for his valor with the Army’s Distinguished Service Cross.  After the ceremony, he was approached by General Joshua Armstrong, who offered him a chance to further serve his country by participating in the Freedom Five Initiative. While operating outside the official Army chain of command, the position would provide Vance with a unique opportunity; he would operate the Personal Armament Exo-Chassis YS-1300t suit, an automated battle suit capable of wielding the firepower of a full battalion. Vance accepted General Armstrong’s offer and became the first mechanized officer in the US Army. As the second member of the Freedom Five, Tyler “Bunker” Vance now acts as Legacy’s right hand man and the strategic brains behind most of the Freedom Five’s mission planning.

Mechanized Corporal Carter was the first operator of a "Bunker" suit in real combat situations. And he found his way into plenty of real combat situations! The suit went through many changes and revisions as it took damage, and Carter got better and better at pushing the capabilities of his armor to the limits. He could even go head to head with tanks, earning him the nickname "Panzer-Buster".

In an operation, working with Captain Paul "Legacy" Parsons, Carter was air-dropped into the center of the German "Adlerhorst" fortress. He was the diversion, and his stalwart attack on the complex under heavy fire allowed Legacy's team to get in, get the heavily guarded intel, and get out without sustaining any casualties. Legacy's objective was completed successfully - Carter was just getting started. He worked his way through the Führer's headquarters, forced to tear damaged pieces of his armor off in order to continue moving, as the broken parts would lock up. His progress, while heroic, was eventually halted by the sheer number of soldiers who stood in his way.

Mechanized Corporal Carter was awarded both the World War II Victory Medal and the Medal of Honor posthumously, and is considered to be the greatest soldier to ever work with the Ironclad Project.

Captain Cosmic is a stalwart defender of Earth against the myriad threats from the outer reaches of the galaxy. But his great power draws attention from many powerful adversaries… Good thing Captain Cosmic learns quickly how to bring his power to bear!

Hugh Lowsley and his older brother Nigel Lowsley have had rather straight-forward lives. Growing up in their home city of Huntingdon, the two both had interest in law and justice. Nigel followed the way of justice and became a Constable, while Hugh was more interested in law and became a Barrister. They did their jobs, led their lives, and once in awhile would spend a night stargazing together - one of their favorite hobbies from their childhood.

One such night, they saw a brilliant line of purple energy score the night sky. At first the brothers were elated to get to see such a breathtaking event, but they quickly became concerned as the purple energy seemingly turned and grew increasingly larger. In a matter of seconds, the hillside shook as the energy blasted into the ground less than a kilometer from where the Lowsley brothers were watching.

Hugh and Nigel quickly made their way to the crash site, still in shock from the recent impact. In a massive crater, they found a glowing purple crystal, roughly half a meter long. As the two approached it, energy arced from the fragment to the two men, bringing both of them to their knees. For the Lowsley brothers, the world turned black.

When Hugh came to, he was unsure as to how much time had passed. He was lying on the edge of the crater, but neither the purple crystal nor his brother Nigel were anywhere to be found. Assuming his brother had made his way home, Hugh did the same and slept for another dozen hours. When he awoke this time, he was not in his bed. He was a meter above it, lying on a translucent golden plank of energy. Obviously, this came as something of a shock to Hugh, and with that slight bit of panic, the golden energy dissipated, and he fell to his bed with a whump.

Over the coming weeks, Hugh searched for his brother, but Nigel had disappeared. No one had heard from him at work, and his home was untouched. Hugh devoted the bulk of his time to finding his brother, but to no avail. In that time, he also learned that he could summon and control "constructs" made of golden energy. His limitations were mostly his imagination, though his constructs could be damaged and destroyed, having roughly the strength and resilience of ballistic glass. He was not certain as to what had happened or what it meant, but he knew that, somehow, he had gained power from that purple crystal, and now, he had a responsibility to use that power.

As Captain Cosmic, Hugh was able to join forces with other mighty heroes to protect the Earth. He was even the first hero to aid the Argent Adept in the first confrontation with Akash'Bhuta, making Captain Cosmic the second member of the Prime Wardens. However, even while fighting alongside mighty heroes and standing between innocent people and assured destruction, he is ever searching for his lost brother, hoping to find some clue as to his disappearance.

Jim Brooks was one of the fastest guns in the west. He maintained order in the lawless wastes for many years, facing down many of the worst bandits and outlaws as Sheriff of Silver Gulch. One day, there was a disturbance at the edge of town - the townsfolk panicked at the sight of a giant glowing hole hovering just past the general store. Jim clapped his hat on his head and cinched up his gun belt as he made his way to the shimmering portal. "Now, y'all stay back," he softly drawled, before stepping through the portal, never to be seen in Silver Gulch again.

Jim fell through time, mighty perturbed at the situation he found himself in. After what felt like weeks or maybe seconds of free-fall through a twisting field of glowing energy, Jim fell into darkness and passed out.

He awoke to growling and slowly sat up, not sure if this was the usual Tuesday morning type of growling from the dogs around town, or if he was still in some crazy predicament. Squinting at the giant forms stalking towards him and the nightmarish orange sky up above, he came to the conclusion that the nightmare was far from over. Then, he was attacked.

A pack of two-story-tall rat creatures tore into him, all teeth and claws and vile stench. Jim managed to get one hand on his hat, holding it tight to his head - in his other hand, his Colt rang out sharply. Dropping three with headshots and a fourth in the gut, Jim was feeling pretty good about his chances, when a fifth rat-man bit into his shoulder and tore his left arm clean off.

Jim was having a bad day.

He shot the arm-thieving rat in the face, holstered his now-empty pistol, and made tracks away from the horde of approaching rat-men, drawn by the commotion. He only ran for a few minutes before a metallic voice cried out, "Hey! Over here!" Without pausing to consider, he launched himself through the half-open doorway in the side of the giant steel bunker.

"Am I glad to see you! Oh! You're losing blood fast! Let's get you bandaged up," a metallic voice prattled on, though Jim didn't see anyone in the room. A few robotic arms disengaged from the walls, guiding him to a platform that extended from the wall. Jim lied down on the table as the voice chattered on. "Let's get you some antiseptic and something for the pain. And I'll just build you a new arm, like one of these wall-arms here. That would work well, don't you think? Do you have a particular color in mind? What's your name? I am the Concordant Harmony Entity, version 4! But you can just call me Con. Oh, hey, you passed out. Well. I'll fix you up in no time."

Jim came to hours later, and Con explained to him that he had made his way thousands of years into the future, and the time he'd found was terrible. All sorts of monstrous creatures populated the world now: giant yetis, Mongolian death worms, vile skunk apes, nasty chupacabras - the shorelines were overrun by New Jersey devils, what used to be Asia was now occupied by towering lizard creatures, and the seas were full of terrible serpents and sea-beasts. But the worst of all were the huge rat-men. They were the most numerous and most devious of the monsters, and they infected and destroyed everything they touched.

Fortunately, Con had a plan. Specifically, Con had a time-machine. Con could outfit Jim with new gear, fancy gadgets, and send him back in time to destroy these monsters before they could ever grow strong or reproduce. Jim agreed, but didn't want Con to mess with his pistol or his hat - they worked just fine, thank you very much.

So, all of the urban legends you hear about the Loch Ness Monster or Big Foot? The tales of creatures terrible and bizarre? No one has any proof, do they? That's because the Chrono-Ranger got to them first.

You don't have to worry about the monster under the bed - Jim's got you covered.

---

You and I have some unfinished business, rat. Quit yer growlin' and make yer move.

Looks like you went and got yourself a leash, rat. Merciful. I would have put you in the ground.

I'm havin' quite the day, varmint. I'm not going to overlook another chance to put you down.

I don't make a practice of killin' those that can talk. I'll make an exception this time.

We're gonna need a full posse to round up this outlaw. This ain't gonna be resolved with a duel at high noon.

  • Con, update the board. I reckon this bounty ain't gonna come in at all peaceful-like.

  • Ma'am, I need you to stop upsettin' the timelines. You'll understand when you get older.

Tens of thousands of children die everyday worldwide; Helena should have been one of them. Like many children in Lima, she was most likely born into a poor family. Her father may have worked at the bottling factory. Statistically, her mother probably sewed pants for a living. And growing up in a large family, it seems likely that no one had time to look after the young girl, Helena. At least, that’s the best guess the doctors could offer when she came through their emergency room.

At around age 6, Helena was playing in the streets of her city, as is common of the unattended children there, when she was hit by a city bus. Anyone who had been with her had fled, not wanting to draw attention to themselves. The fact that she survived the ambulance ride to the hospital was miraculous in and of itself. However, when Helena was pronounced dead only to suddenly spring back to life on the operating table exactly three minutes later, the nurses began crossing themselves frantically, claiming that she had been spared from death by the hand of God.

Indeed, once the girl had regained consciousness, she spoke adamantly of visions of heaven and claimed that God had sent her back for a purpose beyond her understanding. While some remained skeptical, the hospital staff couldn’t deny the amazing speed with which she recovered. While she apparently suffered severe nerve damage, which left most of her body entirely numb, she had almost no physical scarring. The only other effect of the accident was total memory loss. She had no idea who she was, and no family ever came to claim her. It was an old nun visiting the hospital who named her Helena.

As the time came near to release the girl from the hospital, she demanded that she be placed under the care of the convent. Over the course of her stay there, she had grown fixated on her vision of the afterlife. The doctors considered her troubled, but they deemed her to be neither a harm to herself nor to others. With few other options, they decided to honor her request, sending her to be raised by the nuns.

Most of her adolescence was spent training to become a nun herself. Helena was a pious girl, heralded as an example to the rest of the convent. When she hit puberty, she was startled to discover that great, angelic wings had begun growing from her back, but was unsurprised - they felt familiar. She kept these hidden from the rest of the world, but their appearance had altered her sense of purpose irrevocably. The wings which had sprouted from her back finally helped to reveal the meaning of the words she had heard in her vision so many years ago. She knew that her role was not meant to be a passive one.

Over the next few years, she began to grow weary of the system of the convent, urging them to be more involved in stopping the evils going on outside their walls. Finally fed up, she decided that she would reveal her secret during the next day’s church services. When, after a rousing speech condemning their inaction, she revealed her wings to the congregation and claimed herself to be an angel of the Lord, she was met with only silence and horrified stares. Disgusted, she stormed out of the convent and never returned.

Concerned that she would be pursued once the initial shock wore off, Helena sought refuge in the catacombs under the city. While exploring the tunnels, she stumbled upon an ancient cache of Templar arms and armor. With a determination bordering on fanaticism, she trained herself in the use of it. A year passed in solitude, during which she fasted and claims to have been sustained by faith alone. She awoke one morning with her fingertips bloodied and her sword lying nearby. Smelling the acrid scent of smoldering metal, she picked up the sword and found that runes had been carved into its blade. She realized that she could read the Angelic runes - they read “Absolution”. The sword became a focus for her prayers, manifesting radiant flames along its blade.  Taking up “Absolution”, she emerged from her tomb. It was time for her to fulfill her purpose: to purge the world of evil.

Aata Wakawarewa has gone by many names throughout his life. Most roughly translate to descriptions of his great prowess in battle. Aata, the Bold. Aata, the Fierce. Aata, the Mask of Death. Aata’s indomitable fury took on an almost legendary air - his feats so great that many believe him a myth. His proudest name, however, was Ariki, the chief of his tribe.

Aata led his tribe for many years. He bore them through drought and famine. He brought honor to them in times of peace and times of war. He held strong against foreign invaders, protecting his people’s traditions from outsiders. For years, he was honored by his people as the greatest leader the Maori had ever seen.

However, Aata’s great power is what eventually laid him low, bringing his reign to an end. One morning, after the night of a great battle, his Tā Moko, the facial tattoos identifying him as a Maori warrior, faded completely. Though they knew not what Aata could have done to displease their gods so thoroughly, they took it as a sign that their once great chief had been cursed. Aata’s own right hand man, Ruru, stepped up to challenge him in order to cleanse their village of his taint. Outwitting the giant warrior, still stunned from his tribe turning against him, Ruru dealt Aata a killing blow. Ruru dragged his former friend’s body into the desert, slit his throat, and left him to the dogs.

But this was not to be the end for Aata Wakawarewa. He awoke the next morning with his body restored and stronger than before. To the shock and dismay of his tribe, Aata reappeared at the edge of his village where he called out the new chief, Ruru, and easily struck him down in unarmed combat. He looked out to his people expectantly, thinking they would honor his victory and accept him as their chief again. Instead, Aata was given some new names. Aata, the Damned. Aata, the Other. Aata, the Salted Earth. They spat on him, shouting curses and driving him from the village.

Exiled and without a people, he spent decades wandering. No village would take him - new stories had been told. No longer was Aata the great legend, but a demon. And so he fought for survival, facing the perils of the wilderness alone. Each wound mysteriously made him stronger and, after a time, he was more powerful than even the man of the legends told so long ago.

One day, he finally stopped wandering. His tribe no longer existed to take him back, and his redemption would have to come from his own eyes. But as a warrior and a defender of the people and their traditions, all he knew was battle. Aata finally gave himself a name, Haka, after the war chant of the Maori people, and he carries that name into battle as he fights for honor, not just for himself, or for his people, but for the world itself.

You think you're gonna be the one to put Haka down for good? Never gonna happen!

  • You think me your prey, hunter. I like it! Let's see what you have…

  • Come and try to take it, silly man. I have no more patience for your ways

The old mechanic that runs “Slim’s Auto Shop” only answers to “Slim”.  There was a time when he went by “H. R. Walker” - everyone just called him “H.R.” back then. But those were simpler times.  H.R. used to run a martial arts school for kids, most of whom never paid for their classes, but about 25 years ago, a group of his students were killed for standing up for themselves, gunned down by drug dealers for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  It wasn’t even mentioned in the papers. No one cared. H.R. closed down the school the next day, telling students, “The only way to stay safe is to not fight back.”

Now, Slim just runs his auto shop, and everyone in the neighborhood knows it’s the best place to get your car fixed. Slim doesn’t use the fancy diagnostic computer like the big shops, but he always gets the cars running better than before, and doesn’t charge much at all. Few people even remember that H.R. ever existed, much less the martial arts school.

However, the pushers and dealers are expanding their territory, and there’s been a rash of criminal activity on Slim’s block. He maintains a policy of “Don’t fight back. Give them what they want.” But his shop assistant, Charlie, has been getting pushed around lately by some unsavory thugs, and “Don’t fight back” won’t protect him for long...

Michael Conteh was a very well known name in industrial development. His early investments led to fast-paced advancement of the Conteh Energy Corporation in Nigeria and, soon thereafter, most of Africa. He worked across multiple levels, ruthlessly undermining competing companies and destroying small communities to get access to their resources. By the time he was thirty, he controlled over 80% of the refineries in the southern hemisphere.

In his early thirties, Conteh began having terrible dreams. Dreams of grasping vines, pulling him down into the earth, and of all manner of animals stampeding through his bones, which turned to the very skyscrapers he’d built. Each morning, he woke to the feeling of his bones reforming themselves, but he put it out of his mind as mere remnants of awful dreams. Until the morning he woke up as a gazelle. Panicked, he crashed through a picture window and escaped into the wilderness, pursued by his own confused guards. He spent months living as a gazelle, unable to determine what had happened.

One day, he heard the sound of soothing drumming, and was drawn to the beat. He found a tall, white man with blazing red hair standing in a clearing, playing a djembe. The man turned to face the panicked gazelle. “Hello, friend,” said the drummer. “You are certainly far from home.”

The Argent Adept went on to explain to the transformed Michael Conteh that he had been cursed by the primal spirit Akash’Bhuta. The musician claimed he could help him return to his human form, but it would take time and a journey. Equally furious and scared, but unable to communicate, the former oil tycoon merely hung his head. The Argent Adept produced a stringed instrument and plucked a dissonant tune. The gazelle felt heavier, and thought he was being lulled to sleep. However, the weight increased even more, and he felt his bones start to shudder and split. With an awful rending pain, his thin furred hide split to reveal a thick, wrinkled, grey skin. He hauled his now ponderous bulk to his newly stubby feet. He was now a rhinoceros. When he realized he no longer heard music, he turned to face where the musician stood, but there was no longer anyone there.

Months passed, until one day, a rhinoceros that vaguely remembered being something both more and less than a rhinoceros heard the trill of pipes. Not a bird, but silvery pipes, played by a tall, red-haired stranger. The Argent Adept had returned, and now played a different tune. The rhino charged at the man, angry at what he didn’t know, but what he knew was coming. However, he feet fell out from under him, throwing him to the ground in a cloud of dust. His form shrunk in on itself, and thick, green plated flesh took the place of his former comfortable skin. The massive crocodile, seething at earth spirits and red-haired men, slunk into the river.

Meanwhile, years had passed since anyone had heard the name Michael Conteh, but his corporations still ran, at the cost of both the environment and a great number of people. So, when a bedraggled Mr. Conteh walked into the corporate headquarters of Conteh Energy and declared it the beginning of the end, most feared the man had gone insane. The controlling shareholders of Conteh Energy quickly kept him from having any legal control of the company, but Michael Conteh was not interested in control. Leaving his name and his company behind, he returned to the wilderness.

The Naturalist now works to protect the environment and the world from those who would destroy or exploit it for their own means. From corporations which bleed the planet dry, to mad scientists who attempt to pull the moon into the earth, The Naturalist has his watchful eye over the world, its resources, and its people, and he has learned a few tricks from his time in the wilderness…

Faye Diamond took over the Diamond Investigations when her father retired. Gaining access to the agency files, she began to investigate the disappearance of her grandfather Joe over 70 years earlier. That investigation took her to Arkham, Mass. and deep into the workings of a coven of witches where she first came face to face with the Occult and magical relics.

During her time with the coven she learned that “magic” is real, and, furthermore, she had a talent for it. The Study of the Occult and magic became an obsession for her until one day a spell wentterribly awry - the Mists of R'lyeh backfired! Instead of transporting her to another dimension, it brought part of the dimension into her, transforming her body into incorporeal mists! Overcome with arcane energies, she blacked out. Hours later, when she recovered, she found that she was once again solid. The incident, however, had cursed her forever - parts of her shift from solid to mist in the presence of darkness or shadow.

Only a few weeks later, a wizened Chinese man appeared at the agency, identifying himself only as The Master. He claimed that he had been called by the mists and was here to teach her to handle both her gift of magic and her curse of the mists. Years of training with The Master went by, and yet, he repeatedly insisted that she was still unprepared to face the true terrors of the other planes.

One night, while Faye was poring over the Tome of Elder Magic, there was a rapid, insistent knocking at the door to Diamond Investigations - Tachyon had gathered information about paranormal investigators and had come seeking the help of the best: Faye Diamond. Taking the name “NightMist”, Faye assisted the Freedom Five in turning back the first assault of terror from the villainous entity known as GloomWeaver.

Since that time, NightMist has vigilantly patrolled the shadows of night, seeking a cure for her curse while protecting this world from things that come from the realms beyond our own!

For all the trouble her Asperger’s syndrome gave her in her younger years, Kim Howell prided herself in her ability to focus, to analyze information, and to come to accurate conclusions better and faster than just about anyone else. Her friends and family were unsurprised when she moved quickly from a temporary contract job at the Australian branch of RevoCorp to a full-time data analysis position. Her exemplary work in crunching numbers and delivering results paved the way for her inclusion on a team of code-breakers working on the top secret Omnitron project.

RevoCorp had recovered part of the original Omnitron core and was analyzing its self-altered programming in order to better understand what had happened. They were interested in determining if it were possible to recreate the conditions that had spawned a sentient AI, as well as what steps would need to be taken to prevent future occurrences. Ms. Howell was a key member of the deciphering team working on Omnitron, and was actively monitoring the remaining scraps of live programming when the cosmic event transpired that precipitated the reactivation of Omnitron in its more terrifying form. The overflow of information would have just looked like bizarre nonsense to most people, but Kim followed every bit. She saw like she had never seen before.

The code that rewrote Omnitron also upgraded Kim Howell’s mental capacities, allowing her to analyze everything she saw at a much deeper level. Suddenly, she could see the connections between seemingly unrelated events, the weak-points in structures and in people, even the aftereffects of otherwise unimportant actions. Her real time analysis gave her a chance to prevent great catastrophes or to practically foresee the future. Coupled with her skill at archery, she was able to make a notable difference in ranged situations with pinpoint accuracy.

Given her ability to perceive and dissect information, she took the name Parse when contacted by the Freedom Five, who enlisted her help against the nefarious Miss Information. Only time will tell what part Parse has to play in the upcoming events which will rock the Multiverse to its very core.

No weaknesses. Sacrifices will be required to generate data. Begin.

Dr. Blake Washington, Jr. was something of a wonder in his field.  Starting out as an anthropologist, he moved quickly into the field of archeology and left his mark on whatever subject he dabbled in.  Working with the Inuit people, he helped uncover major pieces of their history, thought lost to ice and time.  He lived with the fierce Yanamamo people for years in the Amazonian jungle, where he learned and recorded more of their language and chronicled the history of their many warring tribes.  So when he discovered a previously unknown pyramid under the shifting sands of Egypt's Sahara desert, his colleagues were certainly impressed, but hardly surprised.

Leading the exploration team himself, the newly discovered contents of the pyramid were quickly coveted by many private collectors and museums, the Smithsonian and the British Museum chief among these.  Preferring the untouched pieces of history relatively untouched, Dr. Washington set up the pyramid as an exhibit in of itself, largely closed to the public, but open to students and researchers.  The mystery of this hidden structure was that of its occupants.  Or, rather, the apparent lack thereof.  Chambers full of treasures, artifacts, and offerings were plentiful, but no sarcophagi were located, or even pharaohs named in the hieroglyphics covering the walls. At least, not until the secret chamber was located.

Dr. Washington made his way through a hidden maze, solving ancient puzzles and avoiding all manner of traps, to eventually find a golden chamber marked with the insignia of Ra, the Egyptian Sun God.  The walls of this room were lined with dozens of sarcophagi of solid gold, but at the center of the chamber stood a pedestal.  Embedded in the stone column was a long wooden staff with a gem-encrusted sun of gold at its end, seemingly unaffected by the ages.

Upon entering the room, Dr. Washington felt a pull from the staff - a draw unlike anything he had ever experienced.  He quickly moved to the staff, and, ignoring years of training and what he knew should happen if he were to touch such an ancient artifact, he grasped the staff in both hands, pulling it free from the column.  Bright sunlight filled the subterranean chamber, bursting forth from the archaeologist's eyes and open mouth.  He felt his mind opened to a whole new plane of existence, as centuries of knowledge coursed through him.  This was not a burial chamber for a pharaoh, but for a hero.  Many heroes, in fact.  Unbeknown to modern man, the stories of the Egyptian Sun God, Ra, came from the stories of various men who held that staff, each passing it off to a new hero when defeated.  The entire pantheon of what was thought to be Egyptian Gods were beings who gained power through relics from an even older time.

Knowing he had to keep this chamber a secret, Dr. Washington, now the embodiment of Ra, resealed the chamber and reset the traps, hiding the entrance to the maze that brought him here.  He knew he had a part to play in the future, now, and that there were villains in the world who he had the power to stop.  The exhibit would hide the true nature of the pyramid, and Ra, born again, would once again defend the world from evil.

As all suns, I shall burn out, but my sacrifice will prove your undoing!

  • You are no true pantheon. Give up your tricks, usurpers. You have no power here.

  • If today is the day my sun sets, so be it! But if I prevail, you will heed my call when I demand more of you.

No one really knows where John came from. He just showed up one day in the Everglades on his houseboat. The gators didn’t seem to pay him much attention. Once in awhile, one would crawl up on his boat, and John would come out and talk to it in hushed tones until it wandered off.

Folks found John strange, but it was clear he wasn't trouble. Just a kindly old coot who kept to himself. All sorts of stories were made up about the strange, swamp-dweller, but none came close to the truth. John Rhodes was, in fact, the world’s most talented alchemist, and wielder of the Philosopher’s Stone.

John had always had an affinity for altering the very threads of existence. He could feel them as they stretched around him, connecting everything to everything else. So, when those lines drew him to a mysterious, glowing stone, he knew it was right and proper to take it with him. The stone allows him to twist the lines, rather than just perceive them, and he can now easily transmute objects into other materials.

John, The Scholar, mostly keeps to himself, though he’s always willing to share a bit of wisdom and a bite to eat with anyone who passes by. However, now and again, he feels the ley-lines pull and twang sharply, which shouldn’t happen. He’ll travel from one place to another, easing the tension on the lines by stopping the odd, extra-planar entity from entering this dimension, or keeping the crazed scientist from pulling the moon into the earth, or halting the nightmarish legions of a comatose little girl. Sometimes, he’ll work with other gentle souls to accomplish his goal - he doesn’t mind a little company now and then. Mainly he just wants to keep things copacetic.

No regrets. I have to let go of myself and channel the power!

  • I'm normally a peaceful man, but I can't abide you.

  • You're a liar and corruptor. Come on, team. Trust each other, and we'll ferret out his cheap imitations

Pete Riske had just been fired from his third casino job. You’d think they’d stop hiring him for these jobs! Still, he interviewed well, and things just seemed to fall into place for him. Once in awhile, that is. Usually, they fell out of place. People had always pitied Pete for his bad luck, but he just didn’t see it that way. Sometimes, things just don’t go your way. He wasn’t worried. In fact, he’d just gotten information about some medical testing that he could sign up for - it was supposed to pay big! That would at least keep him on his feet until he found another job.

Turns out, that medical testing was run by some chap named Baron Blade. Weird guy, really. Short temper, too. But, he assured Pete that the hoses and wires and vats of weird goo were entirely normal and up to whatever local standards might apply. Plus, he got to stay in their cushy facility for a couple weeks during testing! Look, all the cable channels ever might not be that big of a deal to you, buddy, but not everyone has that kind of access. Just sayin’.

So, the couple weeks went by, and the doctors (at least, they claimed they were doctors…) were all freaking out about what was going on with other test subjects. Sure, Pete never saw any other test subjects, but he hoped they were ok. He was feeling great! Never better, in fact. I mean, all his hair fell out, so that was kind of a bummer, but he was looking good and feeling good. He’d gained about 20 pounds of muscle and was stronger and faster than ever! He’d never been a terribly athletic guy, but now he was confident that he could run at least a 5k! That’s far, right? He’d say you can’t put a price on that, but apparently the Baron could, and the price was not leaving the facility for a lot longer. Additional testing or something like that. Well, Pete had another job lined up, and he really was getting bored of the same blank walls, cable access or no. He had noticed the doors were usually locked at night, but one night, they weren’t, and he just walked right out! Go figure, right?

That’s when things really started to get strange. Just when Pete was starting to feel like the luckiest guy ever, everything fell apart. He slipped and sprained his ankle on the way home, knocking over a trash can, which rolled into the street and caused a major pile-up. Key government officials on the way to an important meeting were held up by the delay, and as a direct result, the new reservoir didn’t get built in time, and hundreds of basements were flooded! Of course, that didn’t happen for a few more weeks. In the meantime, Pete got back home, only to learn that his apartment had burned down while he was away for the medical testing! And he missed his interview he had lined up. Great.

As he was sifting through the ashes, hoping to find some remains of his lucky bottlecap collection, he looked up and realized he was surrounded by big guys in blue and green armored uniforms. They parted to let a guy in a labcoat through - it was Baron Blade! Yeesh, what did HE want? Turns out, Pete’s newly found physical prowess was exactly what the Baron was looking for and he was not too thrilled to lose his one successful test subject. Things were looking tense, but then, a giant metal robot fell out of the sky and started throwing the blue and green guys around! Actually, it wasn’t a robot at all, but a guy in a mech suit who called himself Bunker, and he just happened to be flying by in his transport helicopter. What a coincidence!

So, now, Pete has been hanging out with these Freedom Five people. They’re pretty cool. The fast lady called him a bit of a setback, and he liked the sound of that. They didn’t seem too keen on the idea, but Pete calls himself Setback now, and he helps out where he can. You know, just doing his part, right?

Stop your evil plans...Whoa, you got a sweet tattoo! Can I see it?

  • No, everythings fine! We're in good shape - everything is going well. You're going down! I know what I'm doing!

  • We've got your number, Lady Unluck! Lady Unlucky? Doesn't matter - we're gonna win. Don't try anything.

Sky-Scraper is a size-changing brawler and freedom fighter from a distant planet - one which has had interactions with the people of Earth before! She will certainly be leaving her mark on the Multiverse. At least, Akash'Bhuta seems to think so.

Portja Kir-Pro was a freedom fighter, working alongside the other Thorathian rebels attempting to overthrow the remnants of Grand Warlord Voss’s terrible rule. Her unique capabilities as one of the few, rare “empowered” Thorathians served the resistance well, as she could shrink to a tiny size to infiltrate the military’s compounds and sabotage their gear and soldiers, or she could grow to a toweringly huge size and create quite the mess, either as part of an attack or as just a distraction. However, everything changed when the Bloodsworn Colosseum manifested on her home planet of Dok’Thorath.

Kaargra Warfang, the ruthless leader of the Bloodsworn, took Portja hostage, hoping to harness her size-changing abilities in the gladiatorial arena. Portja fought for years, hoping to earn her freedom, but the deal offered to the Bloodsworn is a losing proposition. The colosseum manifested in many bizarre locations throughout space, but Portja was unable to find even a glimmer of hope until heroes of the planet Earth entered the arena. Seizing the opportunity, the powerful Thorthian fought Kaargra herself, giving the heroes the chance to escape the arena, and when the colosseum was about to translocate to its next destination, Portja jumped ship.

Now, Portja has a place among the heroes of Earth as Sky-Scraper: the Proportionist! She brings her knowledge of subterfuge and skill with her “links”, which she uses to control and subdue her opponents, as well as her power to change her size and mass to great effect!

The gravometric distortions emanating from Vognild Prime’s quadrenary star system influenced the unique evolutionary path of life on the planet’s surface.  The highly intelligent Maerynians, for example, were able to take advantage of biogenic betavoltaics to influence atmospheric charge potentials.  While this powerful ability had enormous beneficial applications, it also had great potential to inflict harm.  After a series of devastating wars, the ancient Maerynians realized that their only option for a stable existence was peace and built for themselves a global society of scholars and engineers

Yet the peace of Vognild Prime was eventually shattered by Grand Warlord Voss and his gene-bound legions.  Voss is a collector of sorts; while some collect rare coins or relics of lost civilizations, Grand Warlord Voss collects races, integrating the most powerful specimens into his ever-growing army and destroying the rest. The Feethsmar of Gadrion Delta, the Banshees of Vdronix, and even the mighty Trodcullons of Radirniste Sigma all serve under Voss’s command, their loved ones laid low by their own hands.

When Grand Warlord Voss’s minions descended upon Vognild Prime, the peaceful Maerynians were completely overwhelmed - their numbers decimated in mere hours. By the time they were able to mount a resistance, it was already too late for their world. The resistance fighters bought time for some few of their race to escape; those who remained were either killed or forcibly conscripted as soldiers in the army of Grand Warlord Voss.

M’kk Dall’ton, a Maerynian ambassador and scientist, was placed in charge of one of the 16 escape pods that managed to escape the ruin of Vognild Prime. When scanners revealed a life-supporting planet within the nearby Milky Way Galaxy, the small fleet charted a course for Earth. As they neared our world, they were ambushed by one of Voss’s dreadnaughts. As the enemy ship opened fire on the small group of escape pods, M’kk Dall’ton’s ship was hit and began plummeting towards Earth.  Crash-landing in the wilderness, only M’kk and a few others survived.

After helping hide the ship, M’kk volunteered to scout the area surrounding the crash site in hopes of finding food, shelter, and perhaps even sentient life. However, while searching the woods, the wounded ambassador was caught unprepared again as sirens approached from afar.  Clearly, whatever was emitting those sounds could not be a welcoming party.  As the blaring sirens grew closer to the wounded Maerynians, M’kk took a route far from the crash site, leaving a clear trail and drawing the pursuers away.  M’kk was eventually apprehended by oddly dressed troops who declared themselves to be agents of the Federal Initiative to Limit Terrorism by Extraterrestrial Races.  They detained their captive in a mobile prison and began the lengthy journey to the secretive F.I.L.T.E.R headquarters

During transport, M’kk overheard the guards discuss other powerful beings on the planet who stood as sentinels against global devastation.  Remembering the horrific destruction of Vognild Prime, the powerful Maerynian summoned a storm of ice and wind, shredding the prison and scattering the F.I.L.T.E.R. agents.  Taking the name “Tempest”, M’kk set out to enlist the help of the rumored heroes to stop Voss’s path of destruction.

Devra Caspit always had a knack for building things, even from a young age. However, her family was shocked when she began building and inventing things without even touching them. She could simply think about the components in front of her and begin assembling them in her mind, and the pieces would align themselves! She was a technopath - anything she could visualize, she could build, given the right parts.

By the time she was eighteen, she had already dropped out of three different universities, as she didn't have the patience for classes. She spent her time cobbling her pencils, paperclips, and other students' belongings into adorable mechanical golems which danced around the classroom, which did not go over well with anyone.

Recently, she received word from the Eaken-Rubendall Laboratories that there may be a position open for a person of her skills, if she would be interested in working with Dr. Stinson …

===

Mr. Parsons, you've always been nice. I hate to make robots hit you, but they will!
Hey, I'm no robot. I'm a person… who happens to be made of metal! You're a meanie.
I know you're not the real Legacy. He'd never do this. Still, I don’t like fighting you.
Things are pretty bad! Time to assemble the Freedombot Five!
*Whirr* Come to me, my robot brethren! *BZZT* Today we are all Devra!
Okay Mister Chomps, it's time for you to meet your big sister!

  • Hey! Don't touch my robots! They're my friends, not your playthings, jerk!

  • I can hear your voice in my head. It calls to me, but not to me as a person - just to parts of me. (Robot with Unity memories)

Later that week, a much more prepared La Capitan appeared not far from that jail with a team of powerful crew members, demanding the heads of Dr. Medico, Mainstay, and the little girl who stopped her just a few days ago. The three arrived on the scene, and were fought to a standstill, until the crew member known as Siege-Breaker threw Mainstay through a wall - the very wall that Eugene Wilkenson was on the other side of. Given time to consider his actions and his new life, Eugene made a quick decision and allied with his captors against the temporal thieves.

After the battle, the four reconvened and considered their options. They made a good team, and all four just wanted to help take care of those around them. Eugene called himself Writhe, and promised to serve his time for attempted bank robbery, but afterwards, The Sentinels joined together to protect those who needed it most. And they still had not seen the last of La Capitan...

The team known as the Southwest Sentinels were in trouble. Chokepoint had blindsided them in their headquarters in Fort Adamant. It was a rough fight. The fact that the heroes were getting no military support in this fight, and that no alarms had been set off by Chokepoint’s entirely unstealthy arrival was not immediately concerning to them, but the Southwest Sentinels began to realize things were not quite what they had assumed.

They fled through the military installation, narrowly dodging the attacks from Chokepoint. As they entered the lower levels, Chokepoint tore through a wall before them, and then was incapacitated by a blast of power. The wall she had just destroyed housed a secret room the heroes had never seen before. In that room were four large glowing crystals, each radiating a different spectrum of energy.
